“Great Place to stay after riding the Train”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

Wife and I went on Friday 2/7/14 rode the train to the Canyon, it was great, came back to hotel, and stayed in a Deluxe Queen, very clean, recently renovated, they use only green products in the rooms. Good nights sleep before driving back to Phoenix.

The Depot Buffet was a bit pricey, but Williams is small so not lots of choices for food, the rooms have refrigerators but no microwave's.
Pool is currently under renovation so not open till summer.

Lobby is great, roaring fire in large fireplace

Room Tip: We prefer downstairs, no problems with noise

Green Features: Nice to see a hotel trying to recycle and not lots of waste, they lotions, shampoo, and conditioner are in pump bottles attached to shower walls, but they are clean and high quality, this avoids plastic in the landfill.

So looking forward to this part of our vacation, and it was a bit disappointing. Our room looked into the courtyard, so no view whatsoever. The corridors to rooms are long, and the rooms not that great. They go on about their environmental achievements, making a big thing about the showers. These were the worst showers ever encountered in the USA!
Our visit included the railway to the Grand Canyon and meals at their Cafe. We opted not to use the coupon in the cafe for dinner on our second night, using it in Spencers Bar, which was far nicer.

Nice trip on the railroad to the Grand Canyon. We did the backward package meaning we Picked up our train tickets ,road the train, had the dinner, stayed the night, had the buffet breakfast and off to the next adventure. Worked out very well. Only snag was the dinner buffet was closed for a private event so we got a dinner tab for the bar and grill in the hotel. I would definitely recommend it.

While showing out of town family from Minnesota, Northern Arizona, we planned a railroad trip to the Grand Canyon and spent two nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. We got a package deal for six of us with food, train and lodging.

The gal that checked us in was very informative and very pleasant.

The lobby is grand and very nice. Our rooms were clean but pretty standard motel rooms with in wall, under the window HVAC units that are fairly noisy. Beds were comfortable, but again, just average type rooms and they are starting to show wear. My wife and I stayed here when they first opened many years ago and when they were still running the steam train everyday and we could see the age.

A couple minor gripes:

One, we had seniors with us and to make them walk to the train depot to get the train package and meal tickets just didn't make sense to me. Everything should have been ready at check in, IMHO. Walking across the street is no big deal, but... why not have everything at check in?

Two, on our second night they had a banquet in the meal/buffet hall. It is my opinion that they knew about this when we checked in and they should have informed us of this so we didn't have to walk over, (with seniors), and read the sign on the door. We did eat in the lounge for that one meal and the food was very good. It beat the buffet food by a long shot. The waitress in the lounge was just super by the way,

It is simply convenient and the lobby and fire in the fireplace made it nice. Had my two expectations above been met, I would have rated the hotel as above average/very good.

Booked a package with AAA that included suite at this hotel, train passage on luxury parlor car and two dinners and two breakfasts. The suite room was very nice, large clean. A nice room. The luxury parlor car was fabulous and the only way to go. The buffet was ok. It's great for families and I suspect not up to par given it was off season. Would recommend the package.

This hotel had everything we were looking for. It was a great location since we had planned a trip to the grand canyon via the grand central railway just steps from the hotel. The shootout, which was part of the railway experience was just outside the hotel too. The hotel itself was just renovated and rooms were basic, but immaculate and very comfy. The 2 gift shops had lots of souvenirs and food items akin to the region. The grand railway cafe was across the way and very good food. There was another pub restaurant inside hotel which offered breaker bar and lunch and dinner, but we did not go there. Hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. Would definitely return!

Clean and good service. Comfortable bed. Close to the train station. Probably no reason to go here unless you are really into route 66 (or the movie Cars) or catchign the train although not a bad stop over. There is a small pub with reasonable priced drinks. Check in was easy. Kids playground nearby. We ate dinner and breakfast at the afiliated restaurant, it was a buffet. We tried to find something else to do at night but slim pickings in off season.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs room adn it was quite, someone we met had a downstairs room and told me it was lo...
