“Nice spot, could use better front desk service”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

Checked in for a night after a last minute trip to Bearizona. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the Williams Route 66 strip. The deluxe room we stayed in was recently renovated and appealing although at a $189 price tag with tax and a 10% military discount (thank you) may be a bit pricey.

My only real complaint was the front desk service. The lady acted like I was an inconvenience to her, complained about her system not working with some foul language and went off on a rant about how guest never show up with their license plate number at check in. Appearently it's a law to have this on file at the front desk although I've never heard of it. I think she may have been working at altitude for too long or needs another line of work outside of customer service.

I'll try to post photos. Working off the phone.

We spent two nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of the downtown area with restaurants, shopping and a wild west shoot-out every evening at 7:00 PM. The exterior isn't anything fancy but the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Very environmentally friendly. Indoor pool and restaurant onsite.

As one would expect from the name, it is a spartan, no-frills yet comfortable hotel. The room décor is sensitive – wooden furniture, brass lamps, vintage carpeting, small-tile flooring in the bathroom unlike modern hotel and drinking water fountain. The location is convenient – close to railway station, grocers, downtown eateries and fast food joints. The service is prompt.

After a hectic trip to the Grand Canyon when you are tired to the bone, this hotel provides the coziness of mother’s lap. It is definitely well-worth a stay to unwind.

Small town of Williams is like going back years with the railway running through the centre of town. The hotel was clean and spacious and the rooms were fine but its probably best to take the short walk across the road into town to find a restaurant. Food at the hotel is all buffet, fine for breakfast but not necessarily for evening but there are plenty of food/bars in the town. Unsure why the hotel does not have an alternative menu to choose from-think it would go down well. The cowboy shoot out in the morning is funny and naff at the same time - but we enjoyed the novelty of it all.
Hotel - Its a good place to lay your head whilst in the area and its central for exploring.

Williams is a fun small old style route 66 town. Still has the feel of yesteryear. Hotel is very nice, rooms are clean, nice indoor pool. Walking distance to train depot and main town shops. On site restaurant was disappointing. Food selection and quality of buffet is very lacking. However, there are plenty of great restaurants, pubs etc. in town.

We enjoyed the comfortable beds and clean rooms at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. Our train ride to the Canyon with Sherry was very enjoyable. She did a phenomenal job as a tour guide and kept us happy with fabulous bloody mary's. She was very efficient and really interacted with all the guests on the car. Our trip home was almost the complete opposite experience. There were two hostesses who did not provide the service or enjoyment that Sherry did. The shoot out before we left on the train was hokey, but entertaining. The train robbery was fun and gave us many laughs.
The food is probably as good as it can get when you are feeding large quantities of people. We did take advantage of the option to eat at Spencers and enjoyed a delightful meal.
Staff were very friendly, especially at check in and check out times.
The Maswik Lodge, part of the package, was a total disappointment. It was not clean, had bugs, and was very rundown.

Green Features: Loved their option to have shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion available in dispensers. At one point there was no shower gel available. Perhaps making the dispensers clear so staff can determine when they need refills would improve this great concept.

This hotel is just fine for laying down your head - clean, spacious enough, but not really much more than that. Oh actually the shower was really, really good. Breakfast wasn't great quality at the buffet. The cowboy show was naff. A piece of tree blew down in the car park and nearly hit us - though it was an exceptionally windy day. Williams is a nice location and the train ride to the canyon was great. Watch out though, you might get robbed on the train... not by bandits though, by what they charge for a commemorative photo!
