Grand Canyon Inn & Motel

We picked this hotel because of it proximity to the Grand Canyon. The price is very reasonable compared to the lodging in Tusayan which is just outside of the the Grand Canyon and lodging within the Canyon itself. The Grand Canyon Inn is an older Inn that could use updating. However, the beds were comfortable and it was clean.

Arrived around 20:00, so we (wife and two sons) were in time for dinner after we unloaded the car. Reception was efficient rather than welcoming, but OK. Room was the same - we were there one night so we could reach the South Rim early and the room performed adequately. A/c worked (though a little noisy) and everything was clean.
Dinner service was very friendly but the food, frankly, was poor - small portions of very chewy meat.
Excellent location - we were there in about 20 minutes.
we didn't have breakfast, just ate in the car.

There wasn't any room available at god price in the park so it's the nearest best option. No luxury but clean :).
No había hoteles disponibles a un precio razonable en el parque nacional del Grand Canyon, así que es la mejor y más cercana alternativa. Sin lujos pero limpio... :)

We picked this place as it was a stop gap in our journey, the price per room was reasonable, the checking in was easy, the rooms could do with some modernisation but they were clean. We had a quick snack once we arrived which was delicious, relaxed a few hours then plumped for dinner which was again well priced and fresh!

We checked into our room on a Saturday evening staying two nights with family. Went to our room and found black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. I called front desk to change rooms and they said they check the rooms but they would send maintenance. Maintenance came sprayed chlorox and said he would be back the next day to paint over it. After dinner I asked again to change rooms and after much persistence we were able to change to a different room. The second room the toilet did not work and overflowed. Called front desk they came and wiped it up and said that is all they could do till morning. Next morning found spiders in the shower and electrical outlets did not work. They worked on the toilet while we were at the Grand Canyon. Returned that evening and the toilet still did not work. We gave up and left early the next morning. The price of the motel is not worth it and you don't even receive a complimentary breakfast or free coffee. Place is a dump with no help from manager or owner.

Room Tip: Do not stay at this place because the black mold is probably everywhere.

This hotel was really used as stop over really! Got there late and checked out early, but very nice stay! Room was nice as you would expect. Easy to find and the rooms were well equipped. Although bed was a bit creaky!

Parking was great, loads and loads of space and the bar in the Reception area was very cute and we enjoyed having a late night drink in there!

First, understand that you're stuck out in the middle. 20-30 minutes north to the grand canyon and restaurants or 30 minutes south to Williams and restaurants/grocery store. But my "poor" review is not about location (they are where they are.) Given this, it would be much better if you could actually avoid driving for dinner - but you can't because the inn's restaurant wasn't just mediocre; it was ridiculous. $15 for a plate of pasta with approximately 4 leaves of spinach, a small amount of chicken, a few tomato chunks and no sauce beyond a little oil? A rock-hard burger and reheated fries?

Outside, the heated pool wasn't heated...maybe acceptable in summer, although it was windy at night with temperatures in the low 60s, so the pool was cool. The hot tub wasn't heated, and that simply means it wasn't a hot tub. They put some money in landscaping the pool area with artificially waterfalls and ponds and streams but they had no water in them!!! So what's the point.

The internet service was basically non-existent. Tried it on three lap-tops, two smart phones, and one iTouch. Could not even load and read gmail reliably. No laundry facilities at the Inn, but you can go across to the "Flintstones" campground and try to use the sort of working 2 washers and 2 dryers in a dark room filled with old equipment and stuff and the creepy guy who seemed annoyed you were there.

To top it off, the shower had a wonderful habit of randomly and suddenly (no warning) going to scalding hot water. I mean a temperature that makes me surprised they haven't been sued for injuring someone.

All in all, this was the only low point of an otherwise very nice trip. Take my advice and either pay more and stay up by the canyon or stay in Williams, enjoy the atmosphere and know it will take you an hour to get to the canyon and an hour back. Not a big deal because it's a straight drive at mostly high speed.
