Due to a car problem that day we arrived extremely late to check in at the motel, but after phoning ahead we'd spoke to a lovely lady on the check in desk who was very reassuring and true to her word, we got a warm welcome and no problems when we eventually arrived.

It looks like a traditional all american road side motel from the outside, helped out by the group of touring bikers who had stopped off on the same night as us. The room was a little small but had everything we needed. It was very clean and looked as if it had recently been made over so felt quite modern.

Breakfast was served in the gazebo located in the middle of the courtyard by the owner - toast muffins, fruit and coffee. The place had a very family-run feel, and the staff were all lovely.

Sadly we didn't have enough time to see the rest of Williams as we had a tight schedule to keep to.

A few minor criticisms were that the wifi only worked as far as the gazebo (and not in-room) and there weren't really any amenities to speak of (such as a laundrette). but if you're after a clean room for the night, a good breakfast and a warm welcome then this is a lovely place to stay.

We had just visited the Grand Canyon and wanted to get a head start on our trip back to San Francisco. So, after dinner at the El Tovar Lounge (see an amusing review of a 'good food, horrible service' experience), we drove an hour south to Williams, AZ. Because this was the best rated hotel on Trip Advisor, we stopped here.

They offered us a choice of 3 accommodations which we inspected first, then chose 'the winner'. It was a 1-bedroom king suite with kitchenette. Very comfortable, well furnished. Certainly a cut above the usual motel room, at not much more $$.

Will, the owner's son, was very accommodating, charming and funny. We had a few minor questions, such as how to operate the TV. He came right over and showed us. It is a bit funky to get cable TV, but manageable. And yes, the internet is only available in the lobby or on the patio, but that was not a 'deal breaker' for us. We actually enjoyed the 1950's music in the lobby as we were attending to email.

Breakfast was, ummm, well...not so good. It consisted of coffee, coffee-mate (no real milk), and individually packaged cheese danishes. It definitely was a throw-back to the roots of this 1950's motel. But as another Trip Advisor reviewer said, there's a Starbuck's down the street.

Otherwise - this was a reasonably priced motel along Route 66 with very very nice, friendly people. All part of the adventure.

Oh...when we filled up the gas tank across the street as we were leaving town, the station manager WASHED OUR WINDOWS and filled 'er up, just like in the 1950's. Great throwback to a different era.

We just returned from a one-night stay at this motel. We stayed with two young children (ages 3 and 5) in Room 6, a room with two queen beds. The room is very small, with only room for two beds and small chair in the corner. However, the beds are incredibly comfortable, with substantial mattresses. The room is definitely "charming" both in size as well as in how it's decorated.

The room was clean, except for the carpeting. There were some really disgusting stains on the carpet, near the bathroom area, and socks instantly turned black walking on the carpet. However, the bedding, bathroom and towels were all very clean.

However, we were in town for the Polar Express, and the location was excellent. Due to severe weather warnings that evening, we chose to drive to the railway depot, but could have easily walked with two small children if the weather had been better.

Our only other issue with the room was that there was only a doorknob lock. We would have preferred a useable deadbolt (the one in place appears to be only for the motel's use) and/or a chain/bolt.

We didn't partake in the continental breakfast, and instead ate breakfast in the Pine Country diner just down the street, which we highly recommend.

My wife was a bit apprehensive when we pulled in not having a great opinion of motels but The Lodge on Route 66 is no ordinary motel. We stayed in the Santa Monica suite & if you are staying in Williams for more than one night we can thoroughly recommend it. It comprises of a lounge/dining area which is divided from the bedroom by double french doors and although it is not cheap by motel standards in my opinion well worth the money.
Williams is a buzzing little town & a great place to spend a day or two - the Grand Canyon Railway is great fun as is Bearizona, a wildlife park which has recently opened.
We drove the entire Route 66 from Chicago to L.A., & Williams & The Lodge on Route 66 was one of the nicest places we stayed.

Our family stayed here while riding the Polar Express. The single Queen room was very small but VERY quant and up to date. The double queen was much larger. There is a nice covered gather place with fireplaces and heat lamps (WIFI too) in the center of the parking lot. Everyone from age 50 to 3 years enjoyed our stay. Staff was great. We would definitely stay here again.

Rooms are small, but nicely furnished, clean, and full of charm. Would love to stay there again. Friendly front desk, and across from excellent JD's espresso coffeeshop. Wish we could've stayed longer in this fun town.

We booked two nights at this motel based on Tripadvisor reviews. We had a distinctly different experience than others.

We arrived. There was the "nice young man" to greet us. He directed us to restaurants that were simply awful but where he could give us a coupon which indicated his name. Hmmm. He told us "Yes" there was free wifi but "gosh" it only worked outside (30F to 45F) or in the office - not in the rooms, the "parts" were broken. I had checked this the day before and wouldn't have stayed without the wifi.

Our room did not look like the photos. We had 2 queen beds and it was so cramped that to walk to the bathroom at night was an exercise in not barking your shins on the bed frames.

Our toilet ran and ran and ran. We asked the women (one of the owners) at the desk if we could move rooms since the noise was going to distract us when we tried to sleep. She did not answer but said she'd look. She came, made some adjustment, said her husband would look at it while we were at dinner. We went to dinner, came back and the problem was there again. I asked for another room again. She said her husband looked at the toilet and said it needed a new flapper and would replace it in the morning. What good does that do us? Ridiculous. I persisted and she called her husband who had been working in the room next to ours all this time. He - quite put out - came in with a new stopper and in less than 5 minutes replaced the broken part. They would have left us with a running toilet rather than spend 5 minutes.

Also be aware that the photography of the rooms in no way represents what you see when you get there. The had a very good photographer. And they don't show you the bathrooms which look - except for some new gold tone fixtures - really dingy.

You need training to operate the TV - really.

Light from the center court streams through the windows at night. And finally, forget the free continental breakfast. Do yourself a favor and go to the Starbucks at the Safeway nearby or try a breakfast place in town. It's just downright pathetic.

We had booked two nights. We checked out after one.
