Who doesn't want to sleep in a caboose? We stayed one night at the Canyon Motel and RV Park on our way to the Grand Canyon. Even our jaded college/high school aged kids were charmed. Sleeping in a caboose brought out the train loving kid in all of us.
We were a group of 6 and Caboose #1 had the added advantage of being able to sleep all of us together. It had a queen and then a queen bunk. It was a tight fit, and bigger people might feel claustrophobic, but hey... we got to sleep in a caboose! Plus, the price was less than getting two motel rooms to fit the 6 of us in. The caboose is a great option for a larger family.
Inside the caboose are fun and tongue-in-cheek, historic train signs and memorabilia. There is a small fridge, cute retro looking microwave and a coffee pot. The bathroom is tight, but hey... we got to sleep in a caboose!!!
Caboose #1 also has a very nice deck off the back that looks out onto a wooded section of the property. The orientation of the deck makes it quite private and it was wonderful to sit out on it and play cards with the kids under the stars. The only thing I would fix is the deck seating options. There was a small round table and only 4 chairs (2 more chairs scrounged up from the pool area). Since the caboose sleeps 6, it would be nice to provide seating for 6. Also, the deck is big enough to accommodate a small picnic table. That might suit families and groups better.
Note to thrill seekers... caboose #2 on the property is supposed to be haunted. Maybe we will stay there next time.
Williams is a great little town. I wish that we had spent more time there instead of just passing through. There are lots of shops and restaurants and things to do for families with kids. The locals are super nice. Williams truly embodies the spirit of the West.
