Winslow was by far our favourite town on Route 66 - the friendly people as well as the kitsch "Standin' on the Corner" vibe. But by far the best was the evening we spent at La Posada and the wonderful service and food in their restaurant. The room was wonderful and not unreasonably priced - but bear in mind this is a luxury hotel, not some Motel 6. Prices should and do reflect this.

The story of the owners' rescue of that great space is inspiring and there are pictures all over the walls telling that story. The owner is an artist and there is a galley of her work upstairs.

We were able to put many miles behind us, and recharge our batteries for the rest of the drive.

Room Tip: Bear in mind that this is a railway hotel, so rooms facing the tracks will be noisier. We had a roo...

Winslow, Arizona is not just a lyric in an Eagle's song. It has a quaint Hotel called the La Posada. It used to be a Train Station with one of the last Harvey House attaced to it. My husband and I were blessed to get the last room available for the night (we were just passing through), I was told that is rare. Our room was named the "Betty Grable", all the rooms have names of old Hollywood actors. Each room's decor is a little different and ours was neat and clean with a Patio overlooking Cottonwood Trees. The staff was friendly and they offered a Southwestern themed Gift Shop. Make sure to enjoy the cuisine in the Turquoise Room. I had the Squash Blossoms. This Hotel is worth the trip but make reservation ahead of time.

The La Posada is a Mary Colter's masterpiece. It continues to be a stunning Great Railroad Hotel. Built in the style of a Spanish castle, it has been restored to the days of the Fred Harvey Hotels built by the Santa Fe Railroad. It is complete with a library, garden maze, gorgeous Martini Bar and dining room. The restaurant features items from the Fred Harvey days completing the feel of the 1930 when the Harvey Girls served dinner on fine china and drinks in crystal.

The price of the rooms begin at $119.00 with modern relaxation of the whirlpool beginning at $139.00. Expect to pay fine dining prices within the dining room.

Room Tip: Note: reservations are highly recommended.

Upon arrival, we were a little concerned about some areas of the grounds that were 'under construction' but those concerns quickly diminished as we were treated to a very pleasant experience at La Posada. We arrived a few hours before the formal check-in time but were told to enjoy the hotel and grounds and return in an hour. We did to find a lovely room waiting for us as promised. Not sure where to start in describing La Posada but, between the room and the hotel and the grounds, we had an incredible stay and actually relaxed! One might be concerned about a hotel that pretty much sits by the railroad tracks but we didn't hear a thing during the night (and I'm a light sleeper!). There are a large number of outdoor lounge areas but our favorite was actually the one facing the railroad tracks.....it was actually quite soothing to train-watch! The customer service from every staff member was impeccable. And they love the doggies as well. We will certainly return and will stay longer the next time!

What a place, the rooms are excellent, each one unique in many ways, the antiques throughout the hotel are just fantastic, and the modern art in the galleries just outstanding!

The owners have done a splendid job of restoring this old landmark hotel, the gardens are unique and the restaurant whilst pricey is also at a level you would never expect in a small town like Winslow.

Being an old railroad hotel does mean however that there will be trains passing through during the night, but we had no trouble sleeping as our room was downstairs and probably the furthest from the tracks, our friend room was closer and they were disturbed by the trains.

We thought that the unique experience of staying here was throughly worthwhile and that the room rate represented good value for money

Room Tip: As far away from the railroad lines as possible

La Posada is a masterpiece. This grand hotel from the glory days of the Santa Fe railroad is also the crowning achievement of Mary Colter who is known as the architect of the Southwest. After years of neglect the hotel has been restored complete with period furniture, art, and gardens. You will be very comfortable here and you have a great opportunity to learn something about the importance of the railroads and the Harvey Hotels and Harvey Girls to the development of the American Southwest. It is all good including the bar and restaurant which is run as a separate enterprise. For all you Eagles fans from the 1970s in a two block walk from your hotel you too can be 'Standin' on the Corner in Winslow Arizona.'

What a find! This is one of the old Railroad Hotels built at a railroad station. Lot's of history and art in the many spacious rooms where you can sit and relax if it is too hot to sit in one of their many gardens. The staff is very accommodating. They also have an excellent restaurant (See ratings for The Tourquoise Room). The room prices are very are very reasonable for a hotel of this quality.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the railroad tracks.
