We really enjoyed going through this museum, as the guide unfolded the events that went on in a prison back in Butch Cassidy and Billy the kids days. There was lots of old photos, furniture, even a little room that showed a dentist chair and the tools that he would use. When we first went in, we were given a photo of a actual person that was in the jail, and you are sent into the prison, as that person. We found it interesting to look for our persons picture in the prison and read up on what they were in the prison for.We went into a room where they make brooms to sell, as the prisoners did while they were incarcerated. It wouldn't be interesting to children, but as a couple with no children, it was a interesting hour and a half. Nice gift shop also. Very friendly people through out the museum.

Worth checking out for a few hours. Different, unusual, and very interesting. Gives you a feel for what life was like there. Very cool to see the architecture. Has a museum which goes into detail about the prison. Sometime you think why should you visit a prison, but you will not be disappointed. Very interesting to view the past.

Thank you so much for the visit this summer! Yes, you are correct, there is some amazing architecture! Brilliant work by our forefathers...the remaining structures are still functional and preserved over 100 years later! Hope to see you back soon and thank you again for the visit!

Old prison cells, a great view of the river from the top.

It gets hot here, so plan a visit in the winter or spring.

Take a photo of yourself with a striped prison shirt..

Lots of good museum quality artifacts.

Minimal entrance fee supports the park.

Recommend if you are near Yuma.

Thanks for swinging in to visit us! We do hope you will come back soon...and yes, it is a little more enjoyable in the winter and early Spring! However, when you are here in the dead of summer, the heat really lends itself well in giving you a true feel for what ti must have been like more than 100 years ago! Safe Travels, come back soon... Yuma already misses you!

Residents of Yuma did a great job of preserving this prison and keep it open to the public. What I found interesting is the fact that back in days, amenities the prisoners had were better than for regular citizens of Arizona. After all "Wild West" was not so wild.

Thank you so much for coming down to Yuma and visiting our park! Yes, it is quite interesting to find the "amenities" that prisoners had available to them ....what a critical time in history and the development of the the west!

Only those persons who were locked up there could ever really know what a miserable life it must have been to be incarcerated at Yuma prison. It was supposed to be the most modern prison of its time, but, it was a hell hole for its guests. Intolerable summer heat, open cells facing the sun, up to several persons in a space about 80 square feet. There are a few cells left to tour, but the most interesting part of the park is the stories and displays of some of the prisoners and the crimes they committed to be sent there. We had two young girls about ten years old with us and they seemed to find it interesting. There is a lot to see and read, so give yourself a couple hours. Oh, after you leave there, you may think twice about committing a crime.
