“A LITTLE GEM”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I found this little Gem by accident (via a business contact); in July this year (2014), I had to travel to the Co. Mayo area of Ireland to view property, to do this, I needed a handy B&B and it had to be well positioned geographically to enable me to return after a days driving round the countryside and be able to unwind, have a good meal and a finally get a comfortable good night's rest. The Courthouse is only 15-minutes from Knock Airport which is very handy. The Courthouse did EVERYTHING I needed, on arrival I was met by the managing owner (Trish), given a truly warm welcome and keys to very well presented sleeping accommodation, the room (en-suite), was very well decorated and clean to a very high standard to include crisp linen on the bed.

The atmosphere at the Courthouse can only be described as old-world charm but modern in approach, the décor is very appealing, very clean and you feel home-from-home, the staff are VERY attentive, the food is also to an extremely high standard and has a very good menu range for all tastes, indeed they cater for personal likes and dislikes when ordering a meal. The breakfasts start around 08 A.M and you are not kept waiting long for your meal, I chose the all-in full-Irish breakfast which I so looked forward to each morning, there are T.V monitors all round the bar and seating area but NOT too intrusive, Wi-Fi is FREE, so there is much to aid you to relaxation.

I would without reservation recommend The Courthouse, I have to return again before the end of this year and I will be going there again.

Just three noted items to mention, Car Parking can be difficult as the Town is very busy, but O.K after 19:00hrs, there are only Car Parking places in Ballyhaunis High Street, Car Parks are available, but are not places to leave a Car unattended for long periods, the only other items to mention are Wi-Fi is NOT possible in the Bedrooms (no signal), and the T.V (FREE), only seems to get one channel.

Room Tip: Anything you need just ask the Manager "Trish."

A good value for money Central b&b. The bathroom was very clean and the shower was very good. Breakfast was ok if you like fried brekkie and microwaved scrambled eggs! Visiting family nearby for one night. This b&b is only 10 mins from Knock airport. Would stay again.

Just returned from a short break visiting family. We stayed here for 3 nights.
The Room was Huge, and very clean. It had tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge, plus TV
Breakfast was amazing and all food etc is very well presented and fairly priced.
Would definitely return and recommend this place
It is perfectly located for a trip to Knock as it is only 10 mins away from Knock Shrine and the Airport.
Ballyhaunis & The Courthouse is a great place to stay

First impression on checking in was "homely the open fire in the bar was burning and was checked in with ease, I was directed to the room.

The room was spacious with long windows to allow alot of light in, the beds were comfy and the curtains were thick and heavy which would allow maximum darkness to avoid any light in a early morning.

The bathroom shown signs of wear however this should not be be taken into account when booking as it would not ruin a stay here.

Breakfast is normally included, there is a great range to choose from and the "Homer Simpson" breakfast is a belly buster - you wont need to eat for the whole day.

Dinner/late evening meals in the bar area are slightly expensive, but you definitely should try it, food is really really nice and a generous portions - the dining gets busy near a weekend, that must say something

I plan on returning and I would stay again, staff are very friendly and Val seems interested in where you have been today - Great Customer service from everyone

Room Tip: We stayed in room 103 the room overlooks the road, I didn't wake up in the night however this ma...

I stayed here recently as part of a school reunion group. There is not a great deal of choice for places to stay in or around Ballyhaunis and I was not expecting much having last stayed here a long time ago when it was under previous owners.

After checking in I had bar food which was very good. Simple menu and you could see the food coming out of the kitchen was well presented and fresh. Attention to detail is there. Proper coffee. Staff including the owners Shay and Trish were helpful, welcoming and made our group feel very welcome.

My room was clean, modern and well equipped. Everything worked fine.

Cooked breakfast was like the bar food and was high quality. Could do with an option of cereals, museuli or yoghurt but this is a minor quibble. This was only €45 for B&B. The waitress in the morning was very helpful and even found a mobile charger for me.
