Sanu's House Homestay
Reviewed 10 September 2013

Close to lively Gwarko Junction Sanu's House is a place of peace. Sarita and her family gave us all warmharted comfort that we needed on our stay. The rooms are nice and clean, the atmosphere calm and friedly. The included brakefast and available dinner are very delicious. Of course the bathroom is abstemious but clean as well. We will come back, any time.

Room Tip: Room no. 13 is offside the mainroad, bright and huge.

We stayed with Sarita and her family several times on our 2 months trip to Nepal. We were allways welcomed with smiles and waved good bey with blessings. We stayed in several rooms. Sometimes with private bathroom and sometimes with shared. Both were always clean. It is great to stay here. You can walk to patansquare or take a shared tuktuk for a few rupees. The buses leave 100 metres from here home. You can take buses along the ringroad to the busstation or the busstop to Pokhara. Direct bus to Bhaktapur and other surrounded villages. Straight to boudhnath and other sights in Kathmandu. So if you want to stay in a friendly place with good transportation nearby this is your choice. Also the breakfasts and dinners are nice. You easily meet up with other travelers. Mostly there are also people stayingnwho work in ktm or patan.

Room Tip: The back rooms are a bit quiter in daytime. At night it is quiet in ktm.

This guesthouse is in Patan but still fairly close to all sights and easy to reach by tuktuk or bus (even by foot). This means you don't have all the hassle which you get in Thamel - which is great!
Sarita cooks great food every night and everyone then eats together in the kitchen (of course you may also eat out if you like..). The rooms are basic though nice and clean! The shared bathroom was also okay. Sarita and her family were very friendly and helpful. Arriving totally soaked from the rain we were welcomed with a huge smile and towels. Also they always showed us the best way around and even brought us to the bus station. We can definitely recommend this place as it really is great value for money!

We could not be more grateful for Sarita and her family's gracious hospitality during our time in Patan. My boyfriend had to have surgery on his foot while in Nepal and Sarita went out of her way to accomodate our needs. When I forgot my necklace, Sarita kept it safe until I came back for it. Finally when we were leaving, she went out and hailed us a taxi. In addition to her big smiles, the great food, and charming atmosphere, Sarita and her family goes above and beyond, making their guests feel comfortable.

The place is a bit far but with Sarita's suggestions we went to many places without any problems. The room is clean and impressive with the nepalese style bed. the bathroom s quite average in nepal although it can be better. i would say the highlight was the breakfast when Sarita cooked for us and had guests gather around the kitchen.

Very warm and friendly. :)

I can't recommend this place more! Sarita and family provide everything you need while in Kathmandu. I stayed in Sanu's House for two months while working in Kathmandu and the warm welcome from day one lasted the duration of my stay.

The accommodation is the perfect mix of western comforts (with free filtered water, solar-heated water, Wifi, a library, clean rooms and linen) and Nepali culture. Sarita is a fantastic cook, serving up a feast of various dishes every breakfast and dinner and has a wealth of knowledge about Kathmandu and the surrounding area; including places to go, how to get there and how much you should be paying.

The location is great, situated a short stroll from the charming and authentic part of the city, Patan and with bus and tuktuk links just down the road.

I highly recommend staying here for any duration of time. Thanks Sarita!

Sarita and her family make staying at Sanu's House feels like 'home away from home'. Her family is warm, friendly, and trustworthy. Sartia is always willing to help answer any of your questions about navigating the city or cultural/religious norms.

The rooms are clean, spacious, and well furnished with desks, chairs, wardrobes etc. Sanu's is the perfect mix of western amenities (Wifi, hot water, library, breakfast that isn't dhal bhat etc.) and Nepali home (traditional foods, tikka, furnishings).

Water for showers is solar heated and there is free filtered water to promote the use of reusable water bottles. Extra points for being environmentally friendly!

Patan is a beautiful area of Kathmandu with a lot of charm, and interesting side streets to navigate. The location is good because public transport is easily accessible, and Jawalakhal and Patan Durbar Square are within easy walking distance.

Sartia and her family will make up many of my favourite memories from Nepal!! I could not have felt more comfortable while staying here. Thanks, Sarita!
