Smart hotel & good location

Review of Hotel Himalaya
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Mar 2019via mobile
Stayed at this hotel ahead of an escorted tour of Nepal. It is a very well presented hotel, with a large & airy lobby area, large restaurant overlooking the gardens & swimming pool area. The rooms are well appointed, the hotel is in a good location & base for tours of Kathmandu. The small gift shop selling pashminas & other small gift items is great value & has some lovely items for sale.

Thought to be a good 5 star hotel when entered to stay for 2 nights. Looking at the room felt iis a good room. But found that the service for house keeping was not upto the mark The people were not answring properly and whn asked for additional requirements for tea, a heap was dumped in the room. Airconditioning was not there and only heating was available. When it was hot they said open the windows. When complained provided a fan in the room.
Other services were good for dining, the menu was limited and dining room was small for the size of hotel. Wifi was available only at reception and not in the room but chargeble. Other facilities in the room were adequate. Only business was seen.
the access to the hotel from main road was bad, insufficient parking facility.

Room tip: Senior Citizens to choos room on ground floor

We stayed here for 2 nights before and after our trek, and in a different room on each occasion. The rooms are very ‘tired’. Shabby chic might be the right description as in one room there was a hole in the floor. Net curtains with holes and very grey! But the staff was friendly and attentive. WiFi was available free of charge only in the lobby but chargeable in the rooms. The menu has a good selection and I must say that the Châteaubriand was excellent!

It's a nice comfortable business hotel. Big rooms that are clean. Good buffet breakfast. Rooms only have pay-to-use wifi. Free wifi only in lobby. Archaic but it's a business hotel. Hotel taxi to Thamel costs 500 rupees.

As customary, we sincerely care for our guests as they are our valuable assets. Regarding your feedback that free WIFI is available in the Lobby area only & not in the rooms. We have done this on purpose so that our valued guests guests get more time to enjoy the other services in the hotel instead of being hooked into the internet.
