“Lovely place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

We had a room on the upper floor, having a nice view. Rooms were clean, service was great, good wifi everywhere. Our room had a kitchen, so we cooked our own meals. Shower was nice and hot. Nothing to complain, just a perfect peaceful place.

Room Tip: The upper rooms have a slightly better view. The room with the kitchen is especially practical and w...

Neat and clean rooms over looking breathtaking views of the valley and beautiful tropical gardens. Hospitality at its friendliest and finest. La Pura Vida!
The La Princesa has a wonderful outdoor hot tub and a patio in the tropical garden. The location is a great starting point for wonderful scenic drives in the mountains and if you like to walk, there are great routes to take in the foothills. The proprietor gives guided tours of nearby hot springs and isolated jungle waterfalls. We also did a zip line tour that was spectacular. The nearby restaurants are fabulous and offer familiar dishes as well as Costa Rican specialties.

Ted and Donna Hartquist

Room Tip: All the rooms have fabulous views.

We stayed one night in La Princesa on our way south through Costa Rica. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the gardens are beautiful and the view from the hotel is amazing, particularly at night. There's also a good restaurant a short walk away with a similarly spectacular view.

We stayed here toward the end of our trip and this was our second favorite place to stay. As everyone agrees, the view of the valley and the city from the hotel is spectacular. The gardens are lovely and extremely well kept. The rooms were very clean. Wifi worked well, even in the rooms. They do have an enormous jacuzzi, but unfortunately it was closed for cleaning when we were there. We did miss having breakfast included with the room, but coffee was prompt and fresh. Furnishings are basic but this is not meant to be a deluxe hotel. If you stay here it is for the exceptionally reasonable price and the amazing view. The only slightly negative points are the proximity to the highway and the crazy driveway. We hope to stay here again in the near future.

This hotel is located in San Rafael Norte, off the new Interamericana highway. The location is good for access to the city of San Isidro, but the truck noise from the highway is a pain. The view of San Isidro from our balcony was fabulous - day and night! The little private garden area was pleasant, the room appeared clean and well kept and we felt safe and secure. The manager, Billy, speaks excellent English. The downsides - the drive way down the hill to park (and back up the hill) is brutal. The beds and pillows were among the very worse we encountered on our entire trip to Costa Rica (and that is saying a lot!). They have a 'suicide' shower set up - so if you want warm water, the pressure has to be low - good pressure will give you cold water. The night we were there, the bathroom was swarmed with termites - not harmful but a little freaky. The ceiling fan was not adequate to keep us cool and there was no AC. The fridge barely kept drinks cool, much less cold, and the TV had only Spanish speaking stations. There was no breakfast (indeed no restaurant) but Billy did make coffee - however, no coffee maker in the room. We found the downsides far outweighed the good points (the view) - which is a shame, as the location and the view were great!

This place is by far the best deal for the money out of all the places we stayed in Costa Rica. Ask the manager Billy about the Boruca indians, and you might get to visit his father ranch.

My husband and I were blown away by this place and the hospitality of Billy and his lovely family. We stayed here for about a week because it was so comfortable. We had been all over CR at this point in our trip and the other places we stayed didn't even compare. What we got was a clean, comfortable, and safe place to stay. However, it was much more than that. Here we felt like we got the most authentic Costa Rican experiences. Billy became our personal tour guide a few times. He took us to Boruca to see the indigenous Indians, to his father’s personal farm high above the village, and all around the surrounding mountains. This was our favorite part of the trip because it was the least touristy it had been since we arrived. It was authentic, beautiful, unique, and a time we will never forget. Words do not adequately express our gratitude to Billy and his family for making our last few days in CR the best!

Room Tip: All the rooms were very clean and comfortable.
