I was going to stay a few days but I hated it and only stayed one night.

The room was not that clean including trash on the floor and a dirty bedspread. Lights did not work at the end of the hall so I had to grope my way to my room in the dark. Asked for that to be fixed but was told it couldn't be and they didn't want to change my room either.

Up the dark hall and around the corner was a row of bathrooms and showers. Didn't walk by that many times but twice a man was using the toilet as a urinal without bothering to shut the door. Nice. Not.

Felt like a place where you could rent the rooms by the hour.

It was hot and stuffy and I opened the window for air and it was noisy and smelly. During the night it smelled strongly of fire and there was no fire alarm in the room. First time I ever wished I carried a portable one with me. Twice I got up and walked all around the hotel looking to see if there was a fire. Didn't see anything but couldn't escape the smell.

Restaurant downstairs was inexpensive with rudimentary food.

The location across from the central park should be good, but if you have to be in town I would recommend up the hill or over on the highway closer to the Musoc bus station.

All in all, bleh. I wouldn't stay in central San Isidro again and definitely not here, but some of the surrounding mountain areas look lovely.

Room Tip: Try to get one of their newly remodeled rooms or one with a balcony. They looked better. And worth i...

Centrally located hotel in Perez Zeledon. Next to the central park, close to everything.

Older hotel undergoing renovation. Rooms are clean. Hot water showers. Cable TV. Wifi in rooms.

Had a standard room with a double bed for $24 per night. Comfortable bed. Oscillating fan kept the room cool.

Very friendly people at the front desk.

Restaraunt in front with decent breakfast. Noted as previous reviews to have regular gringo clientel. Older aged men hanging out using wifi and talikng. No working girls noted coming and going.

Close to everything. Walking distance.

Check out the Las Cascadas bar for drinks and disco on the weekend. The Bar Valle de la Reina is a great place to watch the park and have a drink, located across the park from Chirripo upstairs by the video screen.

Workers are starting at 7am doing the renovation. Ask for room away from front of hotel and construction if you prefer to sleep in. Check out your room and if not staisfied the front desk will change it if another is available.

Room Tip: Rooms in back are away from street noise

The staff at Hotel Chirripo is helpful, friendly and professional. The rooms are well looked after and clean. The hotel is now in the process of remodeling and the rooms look fabulous!
The city of San Isidro is a great place to stop over before heading for Costa Rica's Pacific coast, the Dominical area or when wanting to climb the highest peak in Central America. On Thursday mornings there is a large, colorful farmer's market in San Isidro and it is a good place to talk to locals and international residents. Costa Rican's are certainly wonderful people!

We were a bit wary about staying here after reading other reviews, but were very pleasantly surprised. Our private room was small but very clean and looked as though it had been refurbished recently: the bathroom was equally clean and the shower was safe (a rarity in Costa Rica!). It's also very central - the bus station is a 2 minute walk away, which was very useful for our early start - and there are loads of restaurants and cheap eats within a minute of the hotel. Highyl recommended for overnight stays.

I enjoyed my stay in San Isidro and found the Hotel Chirripo to be excellent value for money - it was clean, comfortable and the staff were so super friendly and helpful - I was made to feel very welcome. I requested a quiet room and that is what I was given, although the hotel was pretty quiet throughout anyway even though it is in the centre of town - it was Also it was great to have the chance to brew a fresh cup of coffee in the coffee maker in my room in the morning! Although I'm not sure if every room has that facility....
If you are looking for somewhere simple to spend a night or two that is very handy for the centre of town and has very friendly and helpful staff and a price that won't break the bank then I can really recommend Hotel Chirripo.

Arrived by bus and was shown to the hotel by a fellow traveler who asked why I chose it. I said I heard it's clean and cheap. It is. In that respect it was fine . A private room with multiple baths down the hall was $14. The bed was a queen and ok, ceiling fan , tv, internet. Loud yelling late at night by Ticos staying here. Same at 5 in the morning. Normal for these people who have little if any manners. The restaurant was moderately priced toward the lower side of the scale. The food was ok but unimaginative. The place is a hangout for expats, many of whom represent the "Ugly American" image perfectly. An atractve lady chatted me up and was procuring clients of a sordid nature for her niece. I was cautioned not to go into the park after dark and to watch for pickpockets at the bus station by people at the restaurant. Also was told the town is overun with Columbian drug types and thieves of every variety and very dangerous at night. Witnessed an altercation in front of the outside dining room requiring police intervention and threats of violence. Will never go back to the hotel, which is in the center of town across from the park and should be a good location in most towns.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

I stumbled into town without a place to stay. Not finding any hostels, I decided to pay for a room. I was delighted that they had a room for $14 with a shared bath. I just paid the same at costa rica backpackers in san jose and was elated to get a private room with a fan and cable tv!! The front desk was very nice and gave me advise on my next stop.. Location is unbeatable as u are right on the main plaza and evrrything is very close. Come to this town if u are looking to see what real tico life is all about, minus the tourists.
