Ribe Cathedral is one of Denmark´s eldest churches and build in Romanesque style. Several kings are buried in this church. Try to walk up the short of 250 steps of the Tower ( Borgertårnet ) from where you have a nice view over the city.
Very interesting to visit this Dome 900
Years old. The surrounding has been expertly restored and the combination of all old interior and new paintings by Carl Henning Pedersen is very interesting.
We found this old church, arguably The oldest one in Denmark, unimpressive both interior and exterior. While its look imposing for its gothic style we think this church looks average compared with other churches in Europe.
We have visited Ribe and walked through the whole centre, to Domkirke and the canal. Streets are full of beautiful old houses, it kind of looks like fairytale town. Domkirke itself is magnificent in the simple but eyes catching way, it really is very different from baroko churches in Czech Republic I am used to (and that I hate so much).
free to go into,,pay to climb the tower ,,recent refurb inside after flooding well worth a visit its in a small town ,not normal tourist place
It's virtually impossible to miss the church here in Ribe, right in the center of the Centrum, towers dominating the horizon. It's always amusing to take a tour of an historic structure in the US, be told it's "old" as in "built in 1900", as compared to Ribe where the houses and especially the church date back a millennium. We learned a great deal about the church history when we took the 20:00 Night Watchman tour, begins at the area right behind the church, fun to walk around this beautiful town in the dark. The interior of the church has been photographed multiple times and shared in prior posts, those views speak for themselves.
No doubt everyone who visits Ribe stops at the church, a spectacular structure both inside and out. We are so glad we got to see it in person.
