I was looking for a nice table to invite my parents. We left early and made a stop to Guérande, then drove to La Mare aux Oiseaux. Without GPS and and in the dark of the winter, the place was not easy to find. But finally we reach to the goal. We all choose a la carte and add great time. We left the last and took back the road satisfied.

Let me congratulate the Chef Eric Guerin as well as his team for a fantastic diner we had there!
So far this is a 3 Star restaurant! The menu as well as the quality of service deserve it.

Thank you so much for all the feelings that we had ! it was magical and poetical...

Tucked away on an island in a bird sanctuary this master chef has created a cosy hideaway in his rush thatched hotel. There are many birds around though all safe in their cages. The staff without exception worked hard to please - nothing was too much trouble. The food looked great and tasted better. The blind wine tasting with special menus was fun tho I would have licked to get the results before the glass had. Been emptied.

Our stay was for 4 nights. First, the location on the Ile de Fedrun is unique - beautiful & peaceful, unique architecture, etc. Second, the hotel consists of two types of accommodation - in the main building or 4 units on stilts. We were in the latter and appreciated being just a bit removed from the main building across a lovely garden. Extremely comfortable rooms with many design touches which we appreciate. Our room had a small work desk, large bed, good sized bathroom with superb shower, and good air circulation (no air conditioning but on a hot night, windows open kept it comfortable although bring a large scarf to pin up to keep the mosquitos out.) The restaurant deserves all the praise one is inclined to see - very creative, well prepared, well presented. Our package included dinner each night which we hadn't understood meant that we were served "surprise meals" - which literally were a surprise as one could only indicate allergies and dislikes. Wanting to keep with the spirit of the offering, we tried to be open but even ordering the wine prior to the meal arriving required begging the waiter to give us a hint so we would not be drinking red when we actually needed a white. It's a novel approach and each meal was indeed very good. Fun for a first visit but next time we will order off the menu. Staff at reception, serving staff, cleaning staff all top notch. Loved this place and would recommend highly.

My wife and I have eaten/stayed at this lovely restaurant/hotel 6 or 7 times during the past years and we have witnessed the changes it has undergone. The restaurant has always been superb and the waiting staff friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
We had booked for 2 nights in Sept 2010 for my birthday but had to cancel due to me suffering a stroke. We re-booked for the end of April ’11 – only for one night. The friends we were with; it was their first time there. When we re-booked, my wife did mention our previous booking and the reason for postponement, asking for an accessible room. We were disappointed to find that we had been allocated one of the garden rooms – nothing wrong with the room – just the access. We parked in the disabled bay. I could not carry suitcases and my wife struggled over to reception, having first checked in, with our luggage. It was only then that she was offered help.
After settling into the room, showering and changing for dinner, it started to rain. The room wasn’t equipped with umbrellas and so we had to don coats to make our way to the restaurant where we were greeted by friendly waiting staff.
Our dinner was tremendous! Having 2 cooks/chefs in our party, we were invited to see the kitchens and talk to the chefs. Overall, our dining experience was, yet again, something to remember.
We were very disappointed with the breakfast which was 18 euros each. It could have been due to the indifference of the young lady supervising as we had to ask for eggs, yoghurt etc. She was not forthcoming and seemed disinterested.
On checking out, the two staff on the desk seemed pre-occupied and neither asked us if we enjoyed our stay or had any comments about food or service. We should have mentioned that for the type of establishment, we didn't expect platic glasses in our room!
Despite all, we shall go back again, and again if only for the restaurant; but it would be nice if all other elements of a stay here could be as friendly and professional as the waiting staff.

The five course suprise menu was never worth a Michelin star. Cumulating in a lamb dish, which should never have made it on a plate in a restaurant of such a reputation. Not one single course was truly compelling.

Positive was the tasteful interior design and the attentive service.

Hopefully the chief had a bad day. Otherwise this Michelin star needs inspection.

we had a marvelous two nights at this establishment. One does not expect such an elegant, glamorous, even decadent place in the middle of a nature preserve, but that is what this is. We stayed here at the end of our tour of Brittany. It was the perfect end to a perfect trip. No question the food is quite expensive (even the standard continental breakfast is 15 Euros!), but the stay is worth it as a special and memorable trip. The dinner we had was inventive, elegant and delicious. Be aware that you may not wish to eat all your dinners at the inn. Apart from the expense, the food is rich. There is no casual, "hamburgers and salads" alternative, and there aren't many other restaurants in this area of the world. We wound up having quite good pizza at another local place, though, so it worked out just fine.
