“Absolutely fabulous - a beautiful house in an awesome and historic location.”
Reviewed 29 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

La Tavellerie is a wonderful estate with fantastic views over the Vendee rolling hills and countryside. Neolithic sites, medieval towns and the foundations of French history are all within day trip distances. Everyday we were awakened, and serenaded all day, by a huge variety of songbirds. Peaceful and quiet, with sunny days and cool evenings, surrounded by springtime flowering, our stay was heavenly. We were very fortunate to witness the blooming of ancient wisteria which covers the house. The side patio, a new formal garden near the pool, and other details made our stay romantic and in fact we did not want to leave the place except rarely - it was so pleasant. Cooking in a traditional but updated French country kitchen replete with a working fireplace added to the charm. Bedrooms were comfortable with fantastic views, and the bathrooms were updated with modern amenities and showers, while keeping the period character with claw footed bathtubs in some bathrooms. This was our fourth visit, and it will certainly not be our last. This house exudes warmth, love, and charm - anyone who stays here will feel right at home.

“Wonderful venue for a super holiday”
Reviewed 9 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The house was even better than it looked in the photos, and the gardens were glorious. We were welcomed by Jean, who with his wife Veronique manages the house for the owner. Any help we needed during the week was quickly provided, and the owner also proved very anxious to ensure we had a good time. The spacious grounds and garden toys and sand pit all pleased the children in the party, and the adults loved the beautiful outdoor dining areas and the new barbecue. The large swimming pool proved a hit with everyone.
There was ample room in the house for nine people, with lots of large bathrooms and big bedrooms. The living room was very relaxing, and the kitchen featured everything we needed to cater, and an energetic washing machine and tumble dryer.
We really loved this house and it proved the perfect venue for a family get-together.

“Wonderful house, amazing gardens, extremely helpful owner”
Reviewed 3 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

This is a large house near a quiet village. The rooms are spacious and cool in hot weather. Bathrooms and kitchen are of a very good standard. Everything, indoor and outdoor, that we could think of was supplied - including a brand new brick BBQ. The pool, and plants and acres of land are very good- especially the flowers and shrubs. One outstanding memory is of an owner who was always happy to be contacted for helpful advice.

“Fabulous get away”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This house is just wonderful and we cannot sing its praises enough. It provided a peaceful base for our holiday. The house is well equipped (really well equipped) and the pool, gardens and outside eating areas are perfect. Lovely and quiet day and night so if you really want to get away this is a great place. The village has no shops or places to eat which does mean you need to travel out for an evening meal, but the wonderful kitchen and selection of places to eat means your more than happy to stay in and enjoy some local vino!!

Kids would love staying here given the garden, woods to explore, pool and badminton stuff, swings and toys.

Only thing which let it down was that it was a little dirty. The large rug in the main bedroom had clearly not been hovered and this was a shame. We suspect perhaps a one off...

“perfect for children and families of all ages, a real gem of a place”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed here with a wide range of ages, from my 2 year old right through to my mum of 59.
This place is a hidden haven offering absolutely everything you could ever want, for an easy and relaxed family holiday. I was quiet nervous about travelling with a toddler, but I need not have worried. The journey was easy, route simple and beautifully clear wide amazing roads. It didn't even take long to get use to driving on the left hand side. Services stations were clean and everyone spoke good English.
The house was completely equipped with everything you could possibly need, plastic baby bowls/spoons/cups, high chairs, cots with extra travel cot, stair gates ( god send ), micro wave and a beautiful playroom (my son referred to as toy land) .
On thing worth mentioning is there is a great washing machine and tumble dryer so no need to pack hordes of baby/children clothes, enabling you to keep your packing light.
The house is much bigger than the pictures portray and has ample of space for a large family or two. We went with 5 kids aged 2 - 13 and 5 adults and didn't feel as though we were on top of each other at all.
Lots of garden toys too, sand pit, swings, bikes, toy cars, all the children loved this.
The pool is amazing , again pictures don't go anywhere near doing it justice. And take it from a mum who has endured swimming with children salt water is the way forward. If you want it heated allow a good day for it to reach temperature, was warm enough with the sun for us, but a great benefit to have if needed.
Anyway if your lucky enough to get away outside of the six weeks holidays snap this place up as its a pure gem of a holiday.
We are already booking for next year as already it has become a place of special memory close to our heart.

We loved La Tavellerie; it has large airy rooms, comfortable beds, plenty of space for everyone, good bathrooms, indoor and a choice of outdoor eating spaces, a garden with sun, shade, and many facilities for adults and children including a fabulous pool, and a meadow and a wood! The owner was amazingly helpful and thoughtful, providing even toys and sports equipment for us to use. We would highly recommend this rental to families.
