The non-profit USDA licensed refuge, founded in 1992, has grown to become one of the Top 10 attractions in Arkansas and the most popular in Eureka Springs. Lions, cougars, leopards, tigers, and bears are displayed in large natural habitats surrounding the main enclosures and gift shop. Each animal has its own story/history plaque for self-guided tours and over night accommodations are available via the Safari Lodge, RV park, and camping facilities. Guided tours are available from 10am until 4pm (Summer) or 3pm (Winter). The refuge is open year round (except Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.."

We purchased a Living Social for Turpentine Creek, we had passed it many times going to Eureka but never stopped. I would suggest going early as you can, the cats are more active when its cool and the trail can get hot when the summer sun is up mid day. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgable and offed many great back stories on the cats. We were surprised to also see bears! My favorite was the two Lion brothers, one is blind and the other acts as his "seeing eye cat" they let them live together and it is very cool to see wild animals take care of their own in such a way. They have lots of things for the animals to play with and big pools for them to cool off in. One of the tigers likes to play peek a boo when she is in the pool if you will stand there and play along. Make sure to pay attention to them when they tell you how to tell if a cat is going to spray! It happened while we were there, no one got hit but I can not imagine how bad it would be.

Having lived in Southeast Asia and having the chance to go to the famous Tiger Temple in Thailand, I was truly impressed. My parents opted to take me to see this lovely refuge. Locals (Eureka Springs) get in free, but it is well worth the money as what they earn goes to build new habitats (30,000 for one rescued cats enviro). The have 9 different species of cats, 9 bears, a baboon and a parrot. The best time to go is for the 3pm tour (need to be there about 2:45) and the tour ends up back at the compound just a few minutes before the 4pm feeding which is very impressive to see. Really a must see and a very good cause.

The big cats were awesome. That was one experience that I will not ever forget. It was so neat to see all the different sizes and kinds of animals. I wish we would have made more time to spend there. It was wonderful.

The work that is being done at the refuge is outstanding. I have never seen so many big cats in one place. I did not know there was such a great need for a place like this. They are doing a very noble service.

It is an experience that is very memorable. I would recommend a stay at the refuge. At least a periodic visit should be experienced because there are many more animals being brought in.

The accomodations at the Refuge were very comfortable and the staff very friendly. We stayed at the Treehouse which is very private and cozy.

It is difficult to explain how impressed I was with this facility and the work that they do.

This refuge specializes in rescuing large cats in private ownership whose owners have been unable to care for them adequately for a variety of reasons. There are dozens of tigers, cougars, lions, bears, and one very nervous coyote. The guided tour provides lots of details on the life stories of the animals. All in a beautiful setting in the Ozarks. A truly fascinating place. Well worth adding to your itinerary if you're in the area.
