“Grateful”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

As an animal lover and advocate, I felt very grateful for the dedication and commitment that the folks at the refuge have toward all the animals and their concern for each and every animal's well-being. Because of the need for more funds, too many of the animals are still in cages, which was very sad. But they are committed to having natural habitats for ALL the animals -- hopefully by the end of the year. Paws crossed, donations needed! Some of the natural habitats are terrific; some are smaller and more boring. I loved how they had special habitats for the elders. One of the bears had a pond and seemed happy. All of the animals are loved and cared for and lucky and in good hands. This place deserves our support and applause. Take the tour -- it is worthy

“See the Cats and Help Them At the Same Time”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

This is a really wonderful sanctuary for big cats, and a few of their friends. Take the easy half-mile, one hour tour and an enthusiastic intern will share stories and quirks about each of the cats. I was amazed at how large the cats are when you see them up close, and very sad to learn how large the exotic animal trade is in the US. I was not able to visit at feeding time, but I heard from several folks it's great. They also have several bears, a coyote and a some other animals that have come to their door in need of rescue.

Many of these animals had painful paths to Turpentine Creek, and you can easily see they have a peaceful and safe place to live out their lives now. Tours and purchases in the gift shop help support the refuge. You got a big checkbook? Give them a donation. They have ambitious goals to get all the cats into their own habitats and to build a vet clinic on site. This is a place that puts the animals needs and personalities first to give them the best quality of life possible. It's a place you'll feel good spending your money.

“The most caring place on earth”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

These are magnificent animals who have had horrible things happen to them before they arrived at Turpentine Creek. The staff and volunteers are so dedicated. Nothing that can be faked, they truly love and care for these beautiful animals.

“Great for anyone interested in big cats!”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

This is a wonderful big cat refuge. They have over 140 lions, tigers, and even two ligers. They also have a black bear and some coyotes, as well as a few other animals. At first it seemed that the cages for the animals were too small and all concrete, but then on the walking tour of the entire grounds, you were taken to the real habitat offered to the animals - massive grassy enclosures with trees and shelters. Each animal has a story and it's interesting to hear how each came to the refuge. It is staffed primarily by interns who live there. Guests can also rent rooms on the grounds and get to see the animals at night when they are most active. Great place for teens too!
