The Border House
Reviewed 24 May 2012

Spent 2 days here with some friends from Canada, after having such a good time here last year we tried it again. still had a wonderful time and was still as quiet and nice as it was the first time.
Thanks to Rick and Dee for sharing this wonderful location!

Room Tip: The Garden suite is perfect for feeling at home!

The location of the Border House couldn't be better. Just down a few flights of stairs and you are in the heart of downtown Eureka (though going back up those stairs is a real workout!) The size of the Garden Suite is impressive - a full living area, full kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom. Keys are left for you, so no fuss with the owners -- let yourself in, lock up when you go. Our biggest complaint is that the hot water is gone after one short shower. Like many Eureka B&Bs the Border House is a funny mixture of Victorian architecture and 80s decor (rose colored carpet hah!), but it is clean, nestled in the mountain, and has a great private, outdoor hot tub that we will be sure to use if we stay again.

A friend and I rented the Garden suite for a short girls-getaway. The suite was very comfortable, lots of space and a full kitchen which is nice for snacks and beverages, even if you don't intend to cook. Sitting on the front porch and listening to music from the Basin Park was great but you can go inside if you prefer quiet. It is situated overlooking downtown and you can get to shops, restaurants by walking down a set of stairs. A great perk since parking can sometimes be challenging in Eureka. It would be a great set up if you had a group of people and wanted to rent out multiple suites.

The only damper was I felt the B&B managers/owners(?) lacked a little in hospitality. I've stayed at many B&Bs around the world and didn't feel much of a friendly welcome. Granted, we showed up early but told them we had just gotten into town and wanted to be sure we could find it and were at the right place. Honestly, they seemed a little annoyed at our presence, even an hour before check-in. That said, it was the day after St. Patrick's Day and they had a full house the night before so maybe they were worn out. Would stay again given the comfort and great location.

Room Tip: Garden suite has plenty of comfortable sitting room inside. If you have several people and need mult...

felt like we were at home, Wonderful location and very comfortable accomodations. The owners are not on site and your there to be left alone and enjoy, however, they are only a local free phone call away which I found perfect.

Room Tip: garden suite is perfect for a couples get-a-way, Basin suite is also great for a couple with a child...

My family rented the Border House for our new year reunion. The suites are large and comfortable and include all the extra's. The full kitchens work out well for family gatherings, the off street parking in the downtown area is a rare find, we could just walk down a set of stairs to the middle of downtown. The out dooor hot tub is great to soak while looking at the view of the beautiful town. We will definatley keep this place on our list of great places to stay.

What a beautiful place. Located right downtown close to dining and shopping. Listen to music in the park from the front porch. Rooms are spacious and private. The outdoor hot tub is really awesome, located up in a rock bluff behind the cottage, it overlooks the mountains of downtown. A must stay!

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Border House, our suite was very comfortable and very convenient to downtown shopping and dining. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. The out door hot tub up in the rock bluff was very romantic in the evenings after a long hard day of hiking. We cannot wait to return, and would recommend this property to anyone.
