“Great Experience”
Reviewed 22 March 2014 via mobile

We have lived in the area for many years, but never stayed at the Crescent. It was a great experience rich in history. Ghost tour was a little overpriced, but was a good way to learn about the history of the hotel and Eureka Springs. Restaurant was less then impressive. Dinner steak and Salmon was very good, but there were no choices for sides. Breakfast buffet was a disaster, many empty, or almost empty, food containers. My five stars is obviously for the hotel, not the restaurant.

The aura and appeal of this place – The 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs Arkansas – is hard to put into words. It is a magnificent piece of Arkansas history that well depicts the rise and fall of socio-economic trends over the past century or more.

My assigned room in the hotel had an old, stately balcony which overlooked the beautiful Ozark Mountain Valley, looking in the direction of The Christ of the Ozarks. My balcony also looked over the Crescent’s courtyard which had some Daffodils in bloom for an early spring. Below my room, the Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church Carillon played a magnificent Westminster Chime and at 6 pm, a collection of stately Hymn tunes. This Church was built as a Chapel by one of the Crescent Hotel former owners on occasion of his mother’s passing.

The room itself was very decorative and formal. It was an elegant and comfortable room that provided spacious quarters with added internet, ironing and hair drying amenities. Breakfast in the Crystal Room featured eggs made to order, and several other delicious choices. I enjoyed an evening meal in the Dining Room, and the Hero Sandwich at the Fourth Floor Pizzeria was absolutely delicious.

Ramsey, the Butler did a terrific job as host for our Ghost Tour. He related well to the youngest of the young, and the oldest of the old. He allowed each of us to tell of our Paranormal experiences whether at the Crescent Hotel, or previously experienced. While no definitive Ghost appearances were evident during the tour, some energy fields were noted by the sensor device used by the guide. We did not seem to be able to conjure up any Ghosts during our walk through the Morgue in the basement either, but some of us in the group experienced sudden unexplained battery drain of our camera batteries.

I would highly recommend a stay at the Crescent Hotel to include a Ghost tour with Ramsey the Butler, or one of the beautiful Lady Ghost Tour Guides. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. The magnificent Pipe Organ in the lobby was not operational during this visit, but I hope to hear her play on my return visit someday soon.

Room Tip: Some Rooms are typically experiencing more paranormal activity than others. Corner rooms are larger...

The Good: The hotel is very rich in history - you can almost imagine the past seeping through. The grounds are beautiful. The New Moon Spa and the Sunday Brunch in the Grand Ballroom are amazing and worth going to even if you don't stay at the hotel. The staff at New Moon is wonderful and knowledgeable. We had our hair done and got messages that were to die for. We had prime rib and mimosas for brunch along with a dozen other choices of food. The pizza place on the 4th floor has good food but is way overpriced. The ghost tour is fun but, again, way overpriced. The Crescent Cats - Jaspurr and Caspurr - are sweeties!

The Bad: If you are looking for a "nice" hotel, this is not for you. Everything is old. The stairs lean and creak and the elevator is beyond slow. Our room was a double/double premium and it was terrible. We had two small beds that both leaned down toward the headboards. The "dresser" was tiny and looked like it came from a garage sale. The ironing board looked like someone got it out of the trash. The bathroom had been updated at some point but there was a large crack across the porcelain sink.

The hotel could be amazing with some updates like paint, carpet, curtains, and a little carpentry work.

Room Tip: I booked a double/double premium room but I got a very small and not very pleasant room. The lady at...

I stayed here on a motorcoach tour and was very disappointed. The elevator didn't work and we were on the 4th floor. No coffee was available until after 8am which made for many grumpty travelers. The room was dark, dirty and outdated. The bathrooms was very tight and difficult to get around the toilet. We had the ghost tour which was interesting, but I wish we didn't stay overnight. Staff wasn't very friendly and accommodating for our large group. The outside was pretty, but when we were loading the bus some honeymooners left their windows open to the courtyard and we all got serenaded with their "business".

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Our stay was very enjoyable. Interesting ghost tour and excellent service at the New Moon spa. We loved the history of the hotel and the ghost tour guide was very entertaining. The hotel was a restoration of its self and NOT a reproduction.

It is like stepping back into time with an amazing view. My husband and I took a kid free get away and we were lucky to have found such an interesting place to stay. The history of the hotel and the town itself made for a vacation to remember. We enjoyed the ghost tour and spa was fantastic. The food was not the best, but grounds and overall atmosphere made it well worth the stay. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique adventure.
