We had a great stay at this guesthouse. I was cautious as I had never stayed at a farm guesthouse but this the perfect setting, rooms were large and decorated beautifully. Staff was pleasant, location ideal, next to lake and close to town. One night ate at the restaurant it was fabulous. Breakfasts were also great. I would recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Double bed rooms we had was great. Room 10 great.

Beautiful place and lovely restaurant. I really enjoyed the decor. Most places where we stayed while in Iceland were very basic, but this wasn't (we booked our trip, including this place, through Icelandic Farm Holidays). I felt like we were staying in a three or four star hotel.

We only spent one night and didn't really get to explore the area because the day we arrived, there was terrible, terrible weather. We were glad to have a nice place to stay in for the evening and eat.

This "guesthouse" is more similar to an hotel, with a lot of nice rooms and a very good restaurant. It is located on the lakeside and even if it reminds sometimes of an ancient orphanage (and the atmosphere is a bit dark), is maybe the best hotel where we stayed in Iceland. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, the restaurant is fantastic and the staff, even if sometimes too cold, is however helpful and professional. A lot of ancient items like old radios and minerals contribute to enhance the atmosphere. Excellent!

It was really in oktober 2008., but I´ll allways remember my stay at Guesthouse Egilsstadir as if it was yesterday.
My husband and I were on our way to Keflavik on an family visit, but the wheather was very bad.
We almost succeded in landing, and the wheels of the plane almost touched the landingstrip, when we had to turn around and head for the nearest airport on the Eastcoast of Iceland, where we should wait for the storm to calm down.
It was in the middle of the night, when we landed in Egilsstadir - along with two other planes. Suddenly this little town with no more than 2100 inhabitants should try to find ekstra beds for 600 people. Amazing how professional and easy they managed to find a spare room for us at Guesthouse Egilsstadir. We had a perfect stay and were waking to the sounds of calves in the nearby barn. We had a very good breakfast before leaving in the dawn. I went down to the lake and took this picture from the beautiful scenery og nature. I´ll like to return some day and spend some more time at the guesthouse and take a hike on bike or foot.

lovely location, lovely hotel. Recently renovated, clean bright rooms that were very quiet. There was a powercut during dinner which meant that we had just eaten our starters but unfortunately the cod was half cooked so had to be thrown out, but the staff were great and offered us nachos and chocolate cake and more wine. The dining room was really cosy, the staff lit extra candles and told us local stories from their childhoods about the monster that lives in the lake next door. Then they came out with an old grammarphone and wound it up. It played some lovely 40s music, honestly I thought we were in 'Northern Exposure' for a moment there it was fabulous. So welcoming and homely.
I read the other reviews and yes the spiral staircase is a little tricky but I am sure the staff would help you up with it. We had 2 huge suitcases and we managed. Afterall, do you want to feel like you are actually in a very old guesthouse in a remote area of Iceland or in a travelodge just off the M40? Its just one of the quirks of being somewhere truely unique.

At first we thought this could be a faulty towers establishment - the cow shed next door, funny guests getting upset about the parking, but this B&B turned out to be a treasure, particularly the food - Dinner was amazing - highly recommend the beef and by far the largest breakfast choice. Staff were all friendly and accommodating. We had a nice top floor room with partial view of the lake - think the trees need pruning & then everyone's views would be fantastic.

It was a long day driving through the treacherous eastern mountains, and Egilsstadir Guesthouse was like an oasis at the end. It was the biggest room we'd stayed in at any of the guesthouses, beautifully decorated in calming blues and greens. Plenty of space to move around, 3 old windows overlooking the lake, and a bathroom of ample size. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. More than the usual bread and meats and cheeses, they also provided eggs, sausage and waffles! I'd have loved to have stayed longer!
