“Good idea, poorly executed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

If you do not know better, then you might think this is how is should be. The good idea is that they have many typical Icelandic dishes, but they are not done as we Icelander would say "It's not like my Grandmother would have done it" Even the "kæfa" that is without any exemption, a thick liver pat's, was something thin and badly-tasting mouse. The only good thing was the "Hverabrauð" a speciality bread baked in the heat from the hot springs.

The service was very clumsy and un-professional. There was only one table when we came into the restaurant, but we were pointed at a table on the middle of the floor. I asked if we could sit by the window. There was on table there, that had not been cleaned. We were seated there, and brought clean table ware, but the table was never cleaned. .

“Great find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

Having had our fill of fast food establishments, we were desperately in search for some real food. Luckily we found this restaurant. Clean, friendly service was matched by a menu that was not only reasonably priced but also offered a taste of traditional Icelandic fayre. I would recommend this place to all travellers and is a welcome stop off at the end of a long day touring the area.

“soup buffett excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

I had the soup buffett for lunch and it was excellent - three kinds of soup and bread. All of which was very tasty - and most importantly - affordable by Icelandic standards
Lots of other pastries and meals available - what i saw in the display looked yummy but the soup was just too good a deal to pass up.
It was teh best meal i had in Iceland.

YOu can see the steam vents/grills outside the building where they use the geothermal energy for cooking

“Great food and reasonable prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

My husband had the fish burger which came with fries and I had the soup buffet. There were 3 soups to choose from and many homemade breads with different spreads. Excellent food. This was one of the better lunches and prices for our Iceland meals. The staff were helpful and friendly.

“Homecooking, Iceland-style”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

We came here late in the afternoon with a large group. We each tried something different off of the menu and we all walked away satisfied. The prices are about average for what you will encounter for a sit-down meal in Iceland - ranging from about $25-$40 per person US.
We tried: the fish balls, the meatballs, the baked chicken, the fish and chips, and the fisskur/fish gratin. The fish gratin was the best liked out of the bunch with the meatballs coming in second. The fish balls were good, but for the heartier appetite who ordered it, the portion was considered to be on the small side. We liked the coating on the fried fish and the baked chicken was very good. The gratin came with some of the rye bread baked in the geothermal oven and was dense and slightly sweet. The "Sunday" cake was chocolaty with a rhubarb jam filling that quickly disappeared. Overall, we would recommend this place if you are in town enjoying the lovely hikes around the geothermal areas and along the river.
