We stayed here on during a photographic trip to Iceland, and from a distance you might think this was just a cluster of farm buildings you'd be wrong (although they are converted from farm buildings). This guesthouse is pleasant (not quaint like some grannies place), clean, comfy, warm and quiet. It has several rooms - a bit like a motel, each of which is slightly different, some with decking outside, some with single beds and bunk beds, some in pairs some in rows, They have an excellent cook (Helga who also co-owns the guesthouse) and meals are served in a large dinning area (off of which is a TV lounge). The food was delicious and they produced plenty of it, Lamb,Fish, vegetables, preceded by starters and complimented with yummy desserts. Breakfasts were great, loads of it, continental style plus eggs, sausages, tasty breads with preserves and really good pancakes with syrup. The location is remote, you can hear the road, but not like in a built up zone, more like a random vehicle passing through a wilderness.
The only thing you might have to get used to to is the sound of the occupants of the next room, acoustic lagging isn't as important as thermal. Still, a minor point as most only use rooms at the end of the day. And if you have a couple of beers or a glass of wine you'll sleep alright....yes they sell both and they are very reasonable.

Room Tip: They are all different

Quite nice overall - room was smallish but in a cottage setting, right in the middle of a farm..neat and clean with a pleasant hostess, well located (very close to the highway but not at all noisy as in the middle of a farm), amazing value for money!

Stayed for a night since I was traveling from Vik to Selfoss area. The area is quite close to the national park. Room was nice and cozy. Unfortunately I was the only guest there so the owner did not have breakfast option. Selfoss is about 15 mins drive and plenty of restaurant choices to choose from.

We have stayed here before, so it was the first choice this time and it didn't let us down. We had a lovely, warm, clean room on the ground floor. We had to brave the weather to go for breakfast, but that made it all the more exciting. The food on offer for breakfast was of excellent quality. The cooking facilities in the guesthouse were good. although there wasn't an oven we managed cooking on the tops of the hob. The barbecue (which we utilized last time we stayed) was not made use of this time (too cold and windy!!).
It was strange not to see daylight till 10.30 in the morning, but this is part of Iceland's charm. The owners made us feel very welcome and found out information for us when we were interested in taking a boat trip[ to the Westermain Island's (we didn't as it was too windy!.
I would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: Depends upon double, twin or hostel booking, but all rooms clean and warm (or cool in summer).

This place has lots of rooms but most are tired. It had limited facilities, for example few washrooms for many guests. Guests were allowed to smoke in their rooms. Breakfast was boring. Restaurant was expensive. Internet was almost unusable.

Nice farmhouse, cute farm animals (clean and not noisy...), comfortable spacious rooms, great atmosphere at the main room with possibilities for breakfast. Good and scenic location. The only thing we didn't like are the thin walls, but that didn't pose much of a problem.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with no neighbors (thin walls).

The Hjardarból Guesthouse is strategically located close to the major sights along the "Golden Circle" (Geyser's, Waterfalls, National Park) as well as the southern coast road to Vik and the southern islands. The road to Vik is studded with waterfalls and picturesque scenery... and the occasional colony of puffins.

Our rooms were simple, double beds, chair, table, mirrors, interesting local art on the wall. The walls are thin, but not a problem with quiet neighbors... The attached bathroom has the narrowest of showers but plenty of hot water straight from the underground geothermal reserves if you can play the taps properly. (either very hot or very cold... or just right!). No further bathroom accessories except for soap and wonderful soft bath towels and face cloths. Plenty of heating. Not much space around the beds, all the more incentive to get out and enjoy the scenery.

You need to specifically request if you want your room cleaned, towels freshened or bed straightened.

Breakfast is held in a different building on this little guesthouse compound. Wonderful food, lots of Icelandic delicacies including the "skyr", a form of strained yoghurt to be eaten plain or with Hjardarból's home made rhubarb delight. Special pancakes as well as freshly baked bread with a wide selection of local jams and hams. The coffee could use a brand upgrade, a Nespresso machine would do the trick!! The kitchen has an impressive herb garden! Dinner can also be taken at the guesthouse.

The guesthouse is run by a family and all are wonderfully welcoming, helpful with tips and itineraries and concerned about your well being. They try really hard!

I gave it four stars instead of five because I thought the price was a little steep for the total value proposition. I knew I was getting into something simple, but I didn't know how simple! But it's clean and practical and an adventure to be remembered positively.
