“Nice cabin, relaxed stay”
Reviewed 2 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We stayed four nights in Versalir and enjoyed our stay very much. We stayed in the cabin with four adults and the place was an excellent choice for us. The two bedrooms have excellent beds and the living is spacious. We used the kitchen for breakfast, but also cooked dinner twice. All appliances are available to cook a nice dinner.
We also used the hottub once and that was a very nice experience as well, although it took a little longer to heat it up than we had liked.

The location of the cabine is good, in the middle of the golden circle, near mayor sites, within reach of sites in the south and about 15 minutes from Selfoss where there are stores, supermarkets and restaurants.

Responses to email were prompt and we received excellent driving directions and a complete manual for the cabin that were both very helpful. We had a great four days and certainly recommend Versalir for a stay in Iceland in any season.

“Tranquility in a Country of Adventure”
Reviewed 3 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

How do we began to express how maginificant a stay we had here.

Everything was exactly as pictured. The home was well cared for and clean. But the true gem was its location. The serenity of the mountains added a special magical feel to our vacation. At night with the snow in the hot tub or enjoying coffee with the sunrise.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Erlingur, he was always quick to respond to emails. He even provided a local guide of food store, gas station, restaurant, etc.

The beds were very comfortable and the linens were clean. There was plenty of drawer storage.
It was a group of 5, and the couch made a perfect bed. It was very comfortable.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need. It allowed us to make lunch and dinner. We also used the grill. Which we had no issue with.

Selfoss was 15 minutes drive which allowed us to go food shopping. We do recommend Bonus Food store as it was more affordable.

For our group, the homes location could not have been better. Everything in Iceland is a drive but this home's central location in the Golden Circle made black sand beach/Vik a three hour drive, an hour to Seljalandsfoss, an hour to Gullfoss/Geysir and 30 minutes to Fontana.

“Great cabin in a great location”

The cabin is just as described in the details given. Well equipped, warm and cosy with a wood burning stove that can really pump out heat (but plan on buying a bag of wood at the supermarket in Selfoss unless the previous renters have left you some). It's on an 'estate' of similar cabins,so you're not completely alone, but they are all at least 30m apart.

The location is really good. It's about an hour's drive east of Reykjavik. This means that you can easily visit Guyser, Gulfoss and other places on this section of the Golden circle AND you can also access the A1 coast road and drive to Vik, which takes you past some truly wonderful waterfalls.

If you are up for a drive of 4 1/2 hours each way you can visit the Glacier Lagoon. We did, and it was well worth it. Just a little tip though. If you plan to go to GL don't stop and look at anything on the way there or you'll never get there. Note places that you want to see and stop on the way back when you know how much time you've got. Plan another day to do the section from the cabin to Vik and back, then you can spend time at each of the waterfalls in this area. There is a nice little petrol station/cafe/burger bar at the roundabout at Kirkjubaerjarklaustur.

My other recommendation is don't skimp on car hire. Between arriving on Saturday afternoon and leaving on the following Thursday (giving us 4 full days for sightseeing) we drove 1,000 miles. We'd hired a Volvo XC60 from Thrifty at the airport. One look at the deeply treaded winter tyres with metal studs and I knew we'd chosen the right car from the right hire company.
