Nice but simple hotel near the Geysir. The hotel has twenty four double studio rooms in cabins beside the river. Each are outfitted with two single beds/double beds, television, a comfy armchair and bathroom. The hotel has a pool with natural geothermal water. It is approximately 35-40°c and 16.5 m long and an ideal place to enjoy oneself with your family and friends. Beside the pool there are two hot tubs, which are good to relax after a walk around the area.

We were a little bit worried when we arrived as there was a power cut which was expected to last until 6.30pm. We visited the geysirs which are just across the road and were absolutely amazing, especially as there was no one else there. By the time we got back, our cabins were warm and electricity restored. Very lovely staff especially Latvian guy who got us extra towels for the geo-thermal swimming pool.

Cabin was very nice with everything essential for a comfortable stay. However, we did experience a few disappointments: the smoke detector chirped all night needing a battery change, a burned out light bulb that rendered the room dim and no internet connection. Since the hotel was not fully booked care should have been taken that all was in working order in the few cabins used. The internet connection was down and they were awaiting the arrival of the repair company which was out of their control but we were not told of this problem when checking in which would have been helpful. The woman manning the desk when we checked out was concerned that the smoke detector and light bulbs were not functioning and apologized. The room was clean, and otherwise comfortable. The included breakfast was adequate and it was certainly nice to watch the geysers while enjoying morning coffee. One word of warning the hot water comes from underground sources and takes a very long time to reach the cabin somewhat over 10 minutes on the cold morning we were there. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and again a real treat to sit at a table overlooking the geysers. The food was very good and the service unhurried. All in all I would recommend this hotel. Also be certain to stop by the cafe area and pick up a loaf of freshly baked bread for your lunch. The best bread we have ever had, made our picnic lunch special for several days. The staff was friendly and helpful. The young woman asked us to wait a moment so she could go to the kitchen for a loaf of bread fresh from the oven rather than selling us a day old loaf.

We called here for lunch as it was lovely, the area is lovely as you can see the thermal area too

As we didn't use the rooms/cabins I can really comment but the food was lovely and fresh and the staff were efficient and helpful. I would go back but would stay next time

We were moved from a hotel at Gullfoss, because they had overbooked, to Hotel Geysir ....oh! we loved our free standing cabin. The cabin was quaint, adequate, comfortable and clean, with tea and coffee making facilities. The welcome was wonderful. And then it was just a very short walk across the road to see the amazing geysers! While crowds of others had to travel to wherever they were staying we could sit and watch the geysers with the rising sun and the setting sun all to ourselves. Plus also within a very short minute or two walk from the cabin was the Geysir Centre with a restaurant, provisions shop, information centre, and the most comprehensive and best gifts, clothing, and Icelandic wares shop we'd seen in the whole of Iceland. And its all right there. And then the treat was dinner ....we dined at hotel's restaurant and it was an experience! They prided themselves on using local produce from the surrounding farms, and I as a vegetarian had traditional Icelandic vegetables with a beautiful fresh salad, but the large menu had everything. Prices were much the same as fine dining in Reykjavik, but all I can say is that for us it was worth the experience!! ...we sat in front of the most enormous 'picture' windows and could watch the biggest geyser across the road every few minutes giving us a spectacular show !!! All in all a very memorable stay. Geysir Hotel is family owned and they pride themselves in always perfecting where they can, especially if guests point things out to them, so we were told by the lovely receptionist. It was a stroke of luck we ended up at Hotel Geysir. I imagine it can get VERY busy as they do cater for large buses, we were fortunate it was quiet for us.

Room Tip: get a cabin nearer the stream , as opposed to nearer the shop and restaurant

We paid 17 670 kr for a cabin with ensuite bathroom but no breakfasts included. This was a reduced price after negotiation on spec. Breakfast was 1400 kr each, with kids free. The cabins are down the hill a bit. They are fully decked out with all mod cons for a hotel hence the slightly higher price than the other guesthouses we stayed in in Iceland. Comfy bed, multiple lamps, blockout curtains, multiple windows, tea making facilities, hair dryer, fridge etc. However for the additional price we did receive slightly more services, and breakfast was a slightly higher standard. The cabins are roomy and had a jacuzzi in the corner of the room in addition to the bathroom. I had to run the shower for 30 minutes to get hot water, but there was a sign explaining this. I did feel guilty about the waste of water but this is what had to do to get hot water. There is a lovely looking swimming pool between the restaurant and the cabins that is heated and steamy. The location is fantastic as you can wander around the geyers after the tourists have left for the day. They are immediately across the road from the restaurant. The restaurant meal we had in the evening was fantastic, the food, the price, the view of the geyirs, wow ....

Room Tip: Some cabins are closer to the restaurant and swimming pool than others. We were in the furtherest aw...

This is a good hotel that has comfortable quite cabins. They would be a little bit small for more than two but perfectly fine for a couple. The food is superb some if the best I have had. The location right next to the thermal area is also excellent. The only slight downside is that it takes about 20 min to get hot water and they do not tell you this.

There are other attractions apart from the magnificent geysers. For example, Blesi, a hot spring with water the colour of turquoise delights the senses. Walking about this natural wonder, one experiences the intensity of the forces of nature. Night time offers a fascinating view of the bubbling hot springs and the northern lights.
