“Unfair reviews”
Reviewed 31 October 2012

I stayed here for 3 nights and I feel some of the reviews are unfair. The room was spacious and clean, all the staff were very helpfull and the food was lovely. For the price paid this hotel was very good value for money.

Before i say anything about the standard of the hotel, i have to say that the staff was very nice and helpful.
The hotel itself was i think bad. I had spider webs on side of my bed locker, the carpet was very badly finished with the skirting being filthy.
The pool in the spa was big enough for 3 youngsters to jump in but not big enough to do proper laps.
You also have to get out of hotel to go to adjacent building where spa area is!
When we had breakfast,it was a self service and by the time we got our toasts tea and coffee,we were finished our breafast. They had only one girl on. It was a disaster, tables weren't clean on time for people to sit at.
Maybe a better place to play golf, but awful as a hotel.

The service in the restaurant left a lot to be desired but the food was lovely. The bulb in the bathroom was gone. The bed I slept in was not comfortable. The swimming pool was nice and the kids that were with us enjoyed that. The location is pretty and conviennient. The breakfast was horrific.

I stayed here for two nights. The room was spacious and clean. there was no in room reading material, no tv guide and most of the TV channels where doubled up. There was minor maintenance issues like broken window handles, cracks in bathroom sink, etc..but not enough to get excited about. The breakfast was a disaster. The full irish breakfast was pre-cooked /reheated and was like chewing rubber. There was a poor fruit selection and most of it rotten. the only place to eat was in the club house situated 300 metres away. Food ok however a poor selection of dishes. mostly barfood (deep fried stuff etc..). it was reasonably priced however the alcohol was very expensive. there was no road lighting between hotel and club house which is very dangerous. Trying to check out was a joke, No staff to be found. It was 20 minutes before a waitress from dining area had to check me out. The quality of service was not reflected in the price I paid for my stay. It was a ripoff.

We stayed here for a family wedding, there was 5 of us, using 2 rooms with the daughter going in with her grandmother in the third room. Firstly can I say, that I have stayed in a few hotels, and I am happy to fore go certain things as long as the room is clean. Well we were well looked after, the rooms were very clean to high standards, offering you all the facilities that you would need from shower, bath, coffee and tea and all the extras. The beds were very comfortable and we stayed four nights and slept very well. The leisure facilities were very good, we used the pool, sauna and steam room. We also played tennis, but in true Wimbledon style we got rained out! The staff were very happy to help you and very attentive to our needs, I was working one morning in the TV room and was offered a cup of tea at 7 am without me asking for it, I was very impressed with this service especially as I did not think it was possible to ask for tea. Breakfast was very good and plentiful, offering fruits, cereals and cooked breakfast. The surrounding is so relaxing that if it is peace and quiet you want, than look no further. We ate at the club house three times, and enjoyed it and the food all the time. The staff again were helpful and tried to meet your needs of what you wanted. There is a very good taxi service which you can book through the hotel and it got us out and about in Cork and Carrigaline. I would definitely be more than happy to stay again and do more traveling as it was a lovely part of Ireland we saw. While we were there, we had good internet Wifi service and it was very disabled friendly. To the everyone at Fernhill, well done and keep up the good work.

We stayed at the golf club for 5 nights. Everyone was helpful and cheery. The pool was great and so were the leisure facilities if you wanted to use them. We visited lots of places and this was a perfect base. Meals in the clubhouse in the evening were very good & plentiful. The staff especially Gerry were great. I will return to this hotel again.

We stayed here for 2 nights our room was beautiful (226) spotless very comfortable. Triona at the front desk was lovely very helpful.
Sadly the hotels residents bar does not open at all and the dining room( which is a lovely room) only opens for breakfast which is great. You have to eat and drink in the clubhouse which is drab to say the least we had the misfortune to be waited on by a very unfriendly unwelcoming man who made us feel as though we were an inconveince to him the food was edible but on the 2nd night we choose to go to Douglas to eat as we simply could not face the atmosphere in the clubhouse again.
Every other member of staff was really nice but that one bad apple would put us off returning. We will watch with interest for reviews to see if the hotel improves as it really is a lovely place and has the potential to be a great place to stay
