“food selection”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2014

called into the bayview to have some food, the menu was far from exciting, in fact there was only 6 dishes on the main course choices. not a steak sandwich or a goujon dish to be seen, despite being in a major fishing port all that was offered was battered cod! this was my second time eating in the bayview in 3 weeks but not sure i will be back.....
the starter was fine but the lack of choice in the main courses led me to believe that there is actually no chef in the hotel but 'someone cooking' in the kitchen. i could easily have served up any of the choices. the alleged salad i got with my main course was drowned with oil of some sort. i say alleged salad as it was made up of cucumber, few lettuce leaves and more cucumber.... the chicken i got was drenched in garlic, which made the champ underneath very greasy. my friend asked for cod and chip and we had to degrease the batter on the fish by wrapping the fish in a napkin. the chips looked and tasted like they had been dipped in the fryer to reheat them.we did ask was this the only menu available, only to be told, that some of the choices were taken from the menu as it a busy weekend! that's not my problem i would expect a hotel with a good chef to be able to cope with busy! as a frequent visitor to killybegs, i welcomed the choice of 2 hotels to choose from to have my meals. but unless there is a major improvement in the menu and calibre of food served i doubt i will be using the establishment across the rd from now on. however the service was quick and the staff very pleasant and welcoming, it still leaves a lot to be desired..
haven't stayed in newly refurbed rooms, reception area is nice and bright but a little chilly and the main toilets in the bar area are the same as they were years ago and could definitely do with a revamp.

Dear Guest
Thank you for choosing to stay and dine at the Bay View Hotel and taking time to write a review on tripadvisor. I am extremely disappointed that you didn't find our bar menu satisfactory. We do appreciate all our guests and customers feedback as we do take this on board to improve our services. I would like to let you know that our new head chef Chris is re-launching his new bar menu next Wednesday, which includes a selection of seafood. I will pass on your kind comments to the staff and they will they will be absolutely delighted with that.

I can only apologise for your previous experience, however I would like to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Bay View Hotel to try some of Chris's mouth watering dishes and we hope you enjoy your next experience.

I could not have been more pleased with this hotel. Spotlessly clean, excellent service, wonderful facilities. I frequently stay in hotels in London, how I wish they were as good as the Bay View. Ps the staff are genuinely friendly and always ready to help.

Room Tip: This hotel doesn't have bad rooms

The hotel has bin recently refurbished to a very good standard. The rooms and public areas were spotless and tastefully decorated, altho the bathrooms could do with updating. Our maid was lovely and very helpful if we needed extra towels ect.. The bar and reception staff were also very friendly and helpful. We also had the most delicious plentiful cooked breakfast.. Yummy! My only fault was the rooms were not very warm altho there was extra blankets available. I would recommend the bayveiw and would stay there again.

called in2 the newly reopened hotel. We called in for the carvery lunch.Standing in the Q,i noticed two staff with long hair, not wearing a hairnet. The girl carving the meat was eating the meat that was crumbling off, while serving meat.Another staff ,dropped the spoon for serving potatoes, instead of getting clean one,she served spuds by her hands(wearing gloves)that was enough for me,we left the Q,&had coffee.Watching the staff we seen male staff come along ,&stick his hand in Roasted potatoes &ate it

Room Tip: pop in for a coffee,&enjoy craic with barman,A local called him francis

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

Called at the hotel on the 21st February to have a meal as we hadn't been there since it reopened. Walked into the bar/ dining area and the first thing we noticed was the overpowering smell of chlorine coming from the swimming pool. We sat down at a clean table and waited. It wasn't clear if the waiting staff came to the tables or if one had to go to the bar to see a menu and order food. Nobody came near us and eventually we got up and asked a waitress for a menu....her reply was "the bar menu?" As we didn't know if there were any other menus we said yes and she duely brought us one. As it happened there was food displayed in a carvery section but she made no reference to it. On closer inspection there was a miniscule amount of gammon and turkey left which really should have been returned to the kitchen as there was definitely not enough for a portion. Other choices was chicken goujons wrapped in dried out bacon, rather greasy lasagne, a thai curry and fish. Even after looking at the menu no member of staff approached our table and we noticed a family who had entered the establishment after us was served immediately because they were known to a member of staff. I'm afraid we decided to leave and go elsewhere. On the plus side there was a lovely open fire and the whole place seemed brighter due to a lick of paint but unfortunately the service or lack of was the big let down. Since then I spoke to another person who visited the hotel over the weekend and they were served quickly and enjoyed their visit. They were recognised by a staff member. Need I say more!!

Lovely helpful staff, stayed for 6 nights , room comfortable and warm, bed very comfortable, food excellent. Will definitely stay again , just as good if not better than the old Bayview which I stayed in on a regular basis.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back of the hotel. There was a party downstairs on Saturday night but I heard no...
