“Nice,very freindly hotel”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

Nice, very friendly hotel.
I was traveling with my dog and we are both happy:-)
Only 1 bad thing is breakfast: very limited choice: cereal, grilled stuff ( a`la Irish breakfast) and for me - a sandwich man, it was a bit painful.

Room Tip: Choose at least Superior Sea View room

We stayed at the Sandhouse Hotel for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had paid extra for a superior room which was definitely worth it (although of course can't make a comparison with the standard room!). As mentioned previously, our room was very spacious, with a separate sitting area looking out onto the beach, and a generous sized bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The food was great both nights that we were there, with a wide menu selection and not overly priced. The staff were all friendly without being obtrusive, and helped add to the experience of our stay. The breakfast was also great, with a wide variety and staff bringing what you ordered rather than a buffet style.

A few points to be aware of: dinner orders are only taken between 6.30 and 8.30pm so you have to make sure you have planned your evening around this. The hotel information states that there is bar food available throughout the day, but after investigating this turned out to be sandwiches and soup or a scone, and no menu to choose from. We didn't have any internet access during our stay. Finally, due to the picturesque location we did have to drive each day to see more of the local area/attractions. However, none of these points detracted from our stay; we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a superior room to get the view

Very nice, great location, good staff and the usual amenities found in a venerable establishment like the Sand House Hotel.

While it shows some age, it's a very nice place to stay -- room, views and bedding, as well as staff, were very nice.

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay in this hotel and we will definitely be returning! The view of the beach from the bedrooms and glasshouse restaurant is second to none. The staff are attentive but not overbearing and the food was beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay. Decor is a bit outdated but suits the style of the hotel.

Stayed for 7 days and did'nt want to go home. From the moment we arrived at the hotel our stay was perfect. Maggie greeted us at reception and made us feel very welcome. Everything was ready for us and we settled into our room which had a fantastic view of Rossnowlagh beach. The food served in the conseratory( also over looking the beach) was first class. The staff through-out the hotel were friend
ly and attentive to our every need and nothing was to much trouble. I can highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Request a sea view as the beach is breath taking

When I opened the curtains on our first morning to see surfers at 7.45 in the sea riding the waves I thought I had found Paradise! We had an excellent sea view room, very spacious. The bed was the largest I've ever slept in! My father who was in the room next to us quipped it could sleep 4 people quite easily!! The breakfast is, as Michael Winner would say 'historic'. You can have a continental if you wish but I don't think you would do that after seeing the wonderfully cooked food going past your table. The fish is from Killybegs just over the way, from Rossnowlagh, I had the plaice quite a few times, and kippers. My husband did as well as trying the salmon, so delicately cooked and very tasty. Also the Irish cooked breakfact is top notch, my father can vouch for that. The evening dinners, well what can you say, absolutely fabulous, My relatives came over for a meal & were very impressed, we had a wonderful time, and retired after dinner to a lounge upstairs where we could have a good old chat. We weren't even disburbed by other guests, even though the Hotel was full! I really can't say enough in praise of the team at the Sandhouse, Paul Viner deserves to have every success as he has been there for 20 years as manager already, and has now bought the Hotel with others. I do hope I'll be able to visit again. We were able to hear the Travellin Folk in the Surfers Bar on our 2nd night. What a party! That was definately fabulous.

Room Tip: Have a sea-view room you'll regret it if you don't!!

The location and rooms are gorgeous--worth every penny. The restaurant however is brutally expensive and the food is so-so to kind of bad.
Our service was horrible in the restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast. we were on the later side of the time limits and the waitresses made it very clear that we were cutting on their time and made themselves very scarce for coffee refills, etc.--even ordering a second glass of wine and dessert.
The check-in staff was stuffy and not welcoming in the slightest.

Get a waterfront room though and you'll feel like you are in heaven. Just go somewhere else for food and you will be grand,.

Room Tip: pay for ocean view--as long as you are there. it's worth it.
