We stayed here for a fortnight in September and had a great time.
The house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need - except an ironing board strangely.
The house was cleaned prior to our arrival, which was great. There is an information pack available for how to use the pay as you go WiFi for small devices such as smart phones - not included in the cost of the accommodation, which I was disappointed about as I had planned on working on a digital photo project that required WiFi for a pc. The information pack said we could eat any food that others had left behind - which in principle is a wonderful way of not wasting food, however as we were there at the very end of the summer season it meant I had to spend an hour + clearing out open/used jars of jam and sauces from the fridge and 8 half eaten boxes of cereal etc just to make room for the groceries we'd brought with us. An hour + of my precious holiday time I'll never get back.
The kitchen is brilliantly equipped but only big enough for one person in it at a time if preparing a meal. There's a barbecue area outside at the front of the house.
The hoover bag was a so full we couldn't use it with no bags available to change it. I'm more than happy to clean up after ourselves in a holiday rental and a usable hoover would have made it a bit easier.
The holiday pack gave plenty of information but didn't mention that the washing machine was located with the tumble dryer in the little outside shed attached to the house, the keys to which hang at the front door. Fantastically big drum for large washes, very handy. Also in the shed are surfing bits and pieces - don't know how good they were as we had no use of them.
There are plus and minuses for this property that should be considered for your own individual group. We were only 2 people staying in an open plan house so the noise level for us wasn't too bad. But I would imagine that if a large group stayed it would be really noisey. The open plan balcony meant we were able to talk to each other comfortably from anywhere in the house.
The beds were really comfortable and numerous.
The bathrooms were both clean and probably ideal for managing with the needs of small children.
Something else to consider which applies more to September time would be the weather. While we were there we experienced a couple bad storms, which meant while we were in the house the drafts were significant and made the house a little cold. The noise from the chimney especially noticeable.
By the way we retuned the freeview box stations for the television which gave us a broader range of choice when we felt like a bit of couch potato time.
All in all, it provided us with an ideal location for long walks on the beach, access to the assisi gallery coffee house, smugglers, the gas light and sandhouse hotel for drinks and food. By car, 20 minutes to donegal town, 15 minutes to ballyshannon, 5 minutes to the post office shop just up the road from the friary.
I would recommend this property.
Great house, great location and fully equipped with everything you could ever need from cooking utensils to food essentials such as tea/coffee and books/games/tv etc. Within in walking distance of the beach and very comfortably sleeps 10. Would definitely stay again!
Comfy, cosy house perfect for relaxed family get-togethers. Really convenient to premier surf beach & a good base for exploring other parts of Donegal. House is well equipped with dishwasher, hair dryer , much needed cafetiere etc and an added bonus was selection of CDs, books etc for the cosy nights spent beside the fire.
The owner had kindly left a communal supply of items such as cleaning materials, store cupboard stuff such as tea bags, sugar etc. which was really handy as there is always something forgotten on self catering holidays.
