My husband and I went for dinner in the "restaurant" of this hotel this evening and we were so disappointed and disgusted that I felt it necessary to come on here and leave a review.
We had booked a meal to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a great night. When we arrived the main restaurant was full so we were herded into the lounge where some tables were set up. We were given the menus and asked for a jug of water. The jug of water never appeared but a very nice waitress did come and take our orders for starter and main course. She didnt however ask us if we wanted any drinks from the wine menu or ever return with the jug of water we again asked for. We called a different waitress to order drinks and eventually my drink was brought to the table....no glass, no ice, just the bottle of rose. Finally after 3 attempts the jug of water made it to the table too.
After a long wait our starters finally arrived. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. At this stage we would have paid and walked out but we had already ordered our main courses. The main course arrived to our table but unfortunately it wasn't ours, this meant another long wait for our actual order to arrive. We weren't alone in this however, all of the other tables had the same thing. When our dinner did arrive it was definitely not to our satisfaction; cold, overcooked and tasteless. We were so disappointed and decided there and then not to bother ordering dessert. We asked for the bill straight away but as was now to be expected, it took a second request for it to appear. Throughout the time we spent in the "restaurant" a manager walked in and out of the room but never seemed to help the two poor over worked waitresses. It was obvious that we were dissatisfied and looking around us it was very obvious that we weren't alone. He did not approach any of us even though our faces said it all. Needless to say we wont be back!

My family and I stayed there last year all seven of us, including one child we were celebrating a birthday. The hotel is very spacious, beautiful decor, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Food was very good. The town is only a walking distance away. A trip to Galway City is very close also. We very much enjoyed our weekend at the Carlton Shearwater, and was very welcomed by all the staff, they were all very helpful in every way. Would return no problem.

Room Tip: We got upgraded to a suite for a very small amount of money. which benefited us immensely very spac...

Stayed here on a girls night out , couldn't be happier . The service was top class from start to finish . The foyer is nice and airy and a perfect place to sit and chat without the noise of the bar.
The bar itself is clean and spacious and serves delicious food and sandwiches . There are two restaurants for evening dinner ,ours was included in the package so we ate in the main dining room It was quieter but , again , the service was excellent and the food was mouth watering , a good selection of wines also . We were very well looked after by two waitresses and a lovely waiter with a great sense of humour . We never felt rushed or under pressure . The reception staff were just as efficient and friendly as were the breakfast staff , a great choice of buffet for that . Well appointed , comfortable rooms and beds , I got the short straw and had the fold up bed but still slept like a log We will definitely be back ..............

Room Tip: In a quiet area so noise should not be a problem

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel room was clean and spacious. The food was very good. Parking was easy and seemed plentiful in the underground car park. I however do not think this hotel deserves four stars. When we first arrived we went to have lunch in the hotel. I asked for the roast vegetable ciabatta and got a "what", repeated myself and the server behind the counter still did not know what I was talking about, even lifted the menu they had on display and pointed it out to be told it was the first he heard of it. Perhaps staff should familiarise themselves with the menu or head chef let staff know what is on offer. When we checked in I found the receptionist to be very robotic and disinterested in us, was just reaming off what she had to say. The room was as mentioned above, clean and plenty of space. Only half the lights worked in the room, one spotlight and one lamp was not working. The toilet became blocked, not surprised with the cheap toilet paper supplied. I did mention this the next morning and the toilet was fixed by the time we returned in the evening. Curtains in room were falling of the rail. Air conditioning in room does not seem to work, had it on all the time and was too hot to sleep. We ate and had drinks in the hotel both nights. On the first night my husband had to go to the bar twice as he was given really dirty glasses for his beer, it looked like the dishwasher is not rinsing properly and then the exact same problem happened the next night we went to the bar, so no one took on board to check out why glasses were dirty and continued to hand out dirty ones!. The food was really nice but the service not as good. This appeared to be a problem of short staffing, food was really slow to be serviced and then drinks were forgotten and asked for again, even had to ask for dessert menu. Didn't use the Spa, there was information on treatments available in the room but no prices, that put me off booking in for a treatment. Receptionist on leaving was much better, she was friendly, asked us where we were heading, was everything ok with our stay and was very interested in what we had to say.
