“Exactly what you'd expect from an Avoca”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

We passed this Avoca a few times before we stopped for a look.

To be honest I didn't think it was the same Avoca as the ones I've been to in Dublin, the building just didn't have that same slick look from the outside that you'd expect from an Avoca shop. But get inside and there is no denying its the same Avoca Handweavers.

The only purchase I made was a coffee from their self service machine. It was stuck in a cubbie hole and the area was a bit of a mess. Surprising for Avoca. Coffee was just ok, but I wasn't surprised, it's Bewley's coffee, which I don't rate.

The rest of shop was clean and nice, full of the twee pricey clothes, knick-knacks and soaps that only an Avoca sells.

Worth a look if you like Avoca

“Lots to offer”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

Avoca - although this is probably the smallest shop in the chain - is always good for a lot of Irish goods and gifts

“A Great Location - but is it really Special?”
Reviewed 12 July 2013

You have to admit this Shop is beautifully located - you come around a corner on the Clifden-Leenaun road and quite a bit before the village of Letterfrack, there it is, looking-out on the sea. There's ample parking on the sea-side of the road + a few spaces right beside the shop itself.

I tend to agree with the Contributor who declared this is not really a CRAFT Shop, but it's likely that many will find something moderately attractive amongst the range of goods on sale - basically similar to the kind of thing you'll find in other Avoca outlets (my own favourite is the Store in Suffolk Street, Dublin), without the bonus of cafe, breads etc. As yet another Contributor points out, this is not an inexpensive place to shop. If you're going as far as Westport, there are a few outlets on Bridge Street with a smaller but more distinctive range of "craft items" so bear this in mind.

Years ago, in the "pre-Avoca" days, this outlet promoted itself as "the possibly shop", based on what I recall as being the opinion of a Reviewer who described it as "possibly the best craft shop in the West". Those days are gone, sadly.

It's a convenient place to stop for a short break, but don't expect too much.
