“Characterful house, great activities and a stunning area”
Reviewed 11 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Lakeview House is a lovely property. Think Father Ted's house on Craggy Island but with a tasteful extension and a beautiful inland setting. Furthermore, the owner has rennovated an outbuilding to store fantastic equipment all in great condition ; bikes, kayaks, fishing rods. Our sons are 16 and 14 but never got bored. The scenery is amazing and this area of East Clare is very unspoilt, fairly unknown even to the Irish traveller. Garry and his Ma Brída are super people, really helpful and always at hand for advice or a chat in their quaint pub just up the road. We had a great two weeks, even on the showery days.

garry the owner was very helpful nothing was too much trouble,
house was lovely, plenty of room everything you could need for your stay, really homely place, very peaceful setting, boys enjoyed kayaks and bikes even used fishing rods but sadly not many fish were caught, not that far from big cities for shopping and activities like karting and sports centres and food places to eat in or take out, people very friendly there, would definately stay there again ,could even live there. thanks

“Great fun - we ended every day exhausted and happy.”

The house is big and roomy - loads of space for kids to play in the garden and ride the bikes around in the driveway. We loved having the freedom to walk our dog down the private riverside path away from anyone else, this was great as we could let our 9 year old take the dog, which she loved, without worrying about meeting anyone else.

The highlight of the trip was definitely the kayaks and canoe. Garry recommended a wonderful spot which was very sheltered and the water quite shallow - this and having all the safety gear was perfect for beginners like us. We managed to get the kayaks to the lakeside in our hatchback but a roof rack would definitely help.Taking the canoe down the river proved a big hit as well - again we had never done this before so it felt like a real adventure.

We didn't get too much opportunity to explore on the bikes as we were busy on the water but there are plenty of quiet roads in the area to explore for all abilities of cyclists.

Bourke's is a great coffee shop in Mountshannon (about 10 mins by car) that makes lovely buns and cakes.

The house itself has everything you need for a relaxing break - it is very comfortable with a nice lived in feel. The views down to the lake were lovely to wake up to each morning. The donkeys at the front of the house were also a great hit.

I would recommend the house to anyone but especially those with children who enjoy being active. We brought a games console for our daughter just in case she got bored and it was never taken out of the bag and she didn't ask for it once. All she wants to know now is when are we going back.

“Amazing trip to Ireland”

We stayed at the Lakeview House in Gurteeny, County Galway, Ireland. The house is beautiful and the grounds are very nice and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed the nice kitchen area and the family room (with the TV). Because Portumna is only 15 miles away it was easy for us to go to the store to buy groceries and cook breakfast at the house every morning. The bedrooms are nice and spacious and the two main bathrooms are also very large. The new room in the front of the kitchen is also great for having breakfast/lunch/dinner. The house was easy to find from Shannon Airport, simply leave the airport towards Ennis, then once near Ennis follow the signs to Scarriff, then once in Scarriff take the road to Portumna. You'll see the house about 1 mile outside of Coos. Overall it was a wonderful trip and we WILL be back to stay at the Lakeview House again. Thank you to Garry Gorman who is a wonderful host!

“A hidden gem”

The house is set on it's own land beside a river that runs into Lough Derg. There are 3 kayaks, a double kayak, a set of high quality bikes, fishing rods, wetsuits, safety equipment that come with the house. In addition there is a boat house a short walk downstream that contains a canadian style canoe for exploring the river/lake.

The house has four spacious bedrooms, including a downstairs bedrooom suitable for reduced mobility visitors.

This part of Lough Derg is very tranquil. It was amazing to see the wildlife out on the lake from the kayaks. The local cafe/shop (The Cornerstone), in Gorteeny does great coffee and there is a great place for lunches in nearby Whitegate.
