“impressive building, lovely garden”

a work in progress in restoration but definitely worth a visit, for history and for an insight into this kind of thing. The kitchen garden is a delight and the house, a fortified Jacobean Manor House if I remember correctly, devastated by fire when drying laundry caught fire, is unusual and being carefully restored - a huge task. The people who work there clearly love the place.

A must visit. The staff are so friendly, interesting and child friendly. The kitchen garden is stunning. A beautiful and tranquil place with such an variety of fruit, vegetables, plants, trees and herbs. If you like gardening its definately worth visiting. The castle and the grounds are so beautifully maintained. Have to say the highlight for our girls was the was the quiz, the kids really enjoyed it. It made the visit truly engaging.

Restoration work in progress and an immense difference has been made to the once derelict and abandoned castle and its environs. Exhibits were informative but more life and warmth required to bring this castle alive and to share its wonderful history with today's visitors. The kitchen garden was very impressive.

'Nice' gardens and the shell of a once glorious family mansion ! Story boards tell of the history of the place and there is a short DVD.
