“Wonderful experience”

If you are ever in the Longford area, and even if you're not, seek out the Viewmount House. This is an exquisite 300 year old manor house that has been restored to highlight its old grandeur while providing modern day comforts.

Public areas are fascinating with loads of history, memorabilia, artwork and reading material.

Bedrooms are huge, unique and atmospheric, comfortable with spanking new bathrooms.

The €55 taster menu is simply superb value for money. Every mouthful surpasses the last - a joy.
Breakfast is also delightful, obviously chef cooked to perfection.

Again unique gardens with interesting and unique features including a Japenese garden with water features, follies, sitting areas, statues etc all with delightful aromas from the plantings..

The owners are in attendance providing excellent unobtrusive professional service.

All in all this is a superb facility that I cannot recommend highly enough.

Room Tip: Each room is unique - simply check the website for details.

We stayed here at the weekend it really is a beautiful old house ,and old meaning it comes with a few downsides we were woke early by our neighbours in room beside us well we assume it was there shower, it sounded like a aeroplane taking off followed about 20 mins later by another guests shower making the same horrendous noise at that stage were were wide awake at about 8 am on a sat morn
The beds were small (double)and had very hard mattress,s
However the room was spotlessly clean and just beautiful ,decorated in traditional furniture and furnishings

I have had two recent visits to Viewmount House and both were excellent. Two weeks ago, my 'foodie group' friends and I checked in overnight to do justice to the delights of their tasting menu. All five of us were extremely impressed with all aspects of the experience. The quality of the ingredients, cooking and presentation were all very impressive and the service was understated but attentive. There was an excellent and well priced wine list to complement the wonderful food. It is impossible to single out individual dishes - duck confit, soup, salads, elderflower jelly, steak, lamb fillet, chocolate delice, mango and coconut plate - just some of the dishes ordered and tasted, shared and savoured.
The three rooms we stayed in were each delightful in their own way, with great attention to detail of furnishings and decor.Excellent toiletries, comfortable beds and gracious touches such as apples on china plates and bottled water in each room made for an excellent overnight. A wonderful breakfast with options such as poached eggs and bacon with hollandaise sauce on boxty and hot smoked salmon with scrambled eggs were on offer in the beautiful vaulted breakfast room the following morning. All of this was presided over by Beryl, who manages to appear totally relaxed while being ultra organised.
Two weeks later, while travelling back from the west of Ireland, my husband and I dropped in for Sunday lunch. This is a more traditional offering and is tremendous value for three courses of well sourced and cooked food - attested to by the full house of couples, families and a large group celebrating a birthday. Jim was on hand as well as Beryl on this occasion and very kindly showed parts of the house to my husband.
So whether for a gourmet evening experience - ideally with an overnight - or a tasty Sunday lunch, you cannot go wrong with Viewmount House.

Not cheap but worth every penny!
Our room one of only about twelve was spacious with settees and four poster bed and large well appointed bathroom.
The garden is amazing and worth a visit in itself and laid out and meticulously planned by the resident owners.
Dinner was an unforgettable experience conducted at at a leisurely pace with artistic flair and absolutely delicious. The service was attentive friendly and helpful. Not surprising as the restaurant is renowned for it's excellence.
One the best small hotel experiences we have had.

We were on a golfing holiday to the Northwest and spent one night in route from Dublin at the Viewmount House and had an absolutely amazing meal. Three weeks later we are still discussing the dinner – the service was nice - the gardens and facilities are worth taking a leisure walk. We did both before and after dinner. A very nice place to start from for our R&R trip.

We stayed here whilst in the area for a family birthday, now we find ourselves looking for excuses to return so that we can indulge ourselves in this utterly delightful property. From the genuinely warm welcome, the fabulously comfortable and well appointed suite, to the scrumptious breakfast, it was just wonderful. Top quality bed linens, extremely comfortable bed, and spotlessly clean room, all combined to make for a relaxing and pleasurable, but all too brief, weekend. This represents just fantastic value, and a rather sumptuous location (wonderful gardens to stroll around) for a weekend treat.

My sister-in-law and I dined in the restaurant yesterday evening and were impressed by the whole experience. The staff were pleasant, attentive but discrete from the time we sat down to chose from the menu to the time we were seated. The restaurant is fantastic - both the decor and of course the quality of the food - the nettle risotto was delicious as was the John Dory which we had for the main course. Although the clientele appeared to be 'well-healed' there was none of that stuffiness sometimes associated with restaurants of this calibre, making for a relaxed evening. What also impressed was that on finishing dinner, there was no hurry to get diners out - people lingered over their coffee!

One small point which we found a bit irksome was the waiter who, although enthusiastic about the food provenance when helping diners select from the menu, might perhaps lower his voice a little.
