Description: Built in 1727, Ghan House is a 4* AA rated, fully restored, family run Georgian House now in its 24th year of continuous business with 19 years of awards and nominations (see bottom of page). We are one of the oldest private houses of its' type in Ireland a tree length from Medieval Carlingford with 3 acres of walled mature gardens. All of Carlingford's ancient buildings dating as far back at 1210; from King John's Castle, the Dominican Friary, Mint. Taaffe's Castle and old town wall are within a 2 minute walk from our front door. The Tholsel, Medieval Carlingford's old town gate is just 30 metres from our walls. We are in a wonderful location just one hour from both Dublin and Belfast and two of Ireland's three World Heritage sites are within easy driving distance - just 45 minutes to Newgrange and a 120 minute drive to the stunning Giant's Causeway. In addition the recently opened Titanic museum in Belfast and the Dublin Convention Centre are both just a one hour drive from our gates. Ghan House is an oasis of Georgian ambience, gardens and fine dining with beautiful views from every room of Carlingford Lough, The Mourne mountains or Slieve Foy . We have 12 bedrooms in total ~ 4 in the Main House (1 single and 3 double) and 8 Garden bedrooms located 10 yards to the side of the Main House. All double & twin bedrooms have bath & shower en-suite, mountain views, CD/ipod player, digital 32" smart TV and Wi-fi is free. The combination of old world charm allayed with modern requirements seamlessly dovetail together to give a thoroughly unique experience. The individuality of the house lends itself to weddings, usually on an exclusive use basis, private dining for special birthdays & hen nights and corporate hospitality - all enjoying the comforts of a private bar, log fires & candlelight. We also have private parking, a lockable shed for bicycles and 2 little homes in the stable for dogs. We have a small dedicated team - Orla & Sarah in the office, Clare & Olavi front of house, Dara, Leanne and Orla 2 serving breakfast and of course our award winning kitchen team led by Head Chef, Stephane le Sourne. All of this is overseen by Paul Carroll. His mother Joyce Carroll is semi-retired ~ she attends to the herb & vegetable gardens, the flowers in the house, some cookery demonstrations and visits to approximately 14 grandchildren.

“Exceptional cuisine”

From arriving at this welcoming restaurant until we left this was truly a delicious experience! We visited on Easter Sunday evening expecting it to be busy, this was not the case, most of the diners appeared to be residents hence no window seats available!- we were pleasantly relieved as service and ambience was totally professional and relaxed (apart from the couple sitting in the corner at the window across from us they had a heated situation between themselves which was loud enough to be embarrassing to other diners, was glad when they left!!) Food was of an extremely high standard, we both had the chefs taster, the scallop starter tingled taste buds and was a delicious foretaste of what was to come, I had the sirloin cooked exactly as I asked medium rare, the flavour and accompaniments complimenting the steak perfectly, their chef excelled! Paul was trusted to choose between the lamb and duck for my husband and his choice of duck did not disappoint, beautiful! First time to visit this restaurant and will not be the last, thank you!

“Olde Worlde Charme”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

Tried the tasting menu at Ghan House and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant has the feel of an old French chateau - or maybe that was just the effect of the excellent wine. I wouldn't necessarily choose the same options again - hay soup -mmm not sure! All in all however the food was delicious - excellently cooked and presented. The staff had obviously taken into account that it was my wife's birthday and prepared a beautifully decorated dessert specially for her. A wonderful touch and very much appreciated.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

This is a wonderful hotel with amazing food and fabulous service. We were there as part of a hen do and were so well looked after by Paul and his team. I also found the organisation of the hen do was made smooth by the wonderful assistance of Sarah and Orla. Sadly I did not meet them but they could not have done more for us as a group. All in all, a wonderful family run boutique hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed.

“Tasting menu /. Ghan house”
Reviewed 5 February 2014 via mobile

We had dinner here on monday 3 of February . The restaurant was warm and clean we choose from the tasting menu which is the best value in ireland for 6 course with choice of venison // nice soup taster of celeriac and smoked bacon all starter very we'll presented and so good the soup unreal I would like some more aye was a bit too small for my liking , the fish course was very nice the head chef cook the fish perfectly and the way it was plated you can see he knows is stuff then it's time for sorbet banana and passion fruit what a great combination so refreshing main course we add beef again plating taste and exactly the way I whant it then we add Crete brûlée for dessert one of the best creme brûlée I ever add - the wine was lovely the young waitress that served us was very nice and attentive what a shame restaurant was very quiet ( poor weather outside maybe it's the reason) apart from that what can I said fantastic restaurant amazing food on that night but I heard from other people that your head chef is amazing at what he does and is team .
Was reading the yes chef magazine while we where waiting in the bar with a pre dinner drink and guess what the head chef was in the magazine we'll done . So again thanks so much for this lovely experience will be back next time with more people thank you and keep up the good job
Regards
