“Beautiful, cozy, large comfortable house close to walking paths along the lock”

Spent 1 week in July with my family at this cottage (large house). After a long flight we were surprisingly greeted by the owner and his wife with a beautiful tea time including breads, jams and cakes. The house is beautiful, fully functioning kitchen with everything you'd ever need including some oils and spices. The 2 bathrooms really helped considering we had 7 people staying. Not too small for 7 adults. We especially loved the sun room whether it be a sunny day or listing to the rain. Comfortable beds. We loved that we could go across the street and enjoy the walking path along the water with a view of the Mourne Mountains. We also enjoyed the tips from the owner regarding taxi's to pubs, restaurants and the books / pamphlets available on what to see and do in the area. We went to Belfast for a hop on hop off tour, golfing and a visit to New Grange (burial mounds). Belfast is about an hour away.Would definitely recommend Old Essmore Cottage. The hosts went above and beyond! A very relaxing place to stay.

“a beautiful home from home”
Reviewed 7 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Just home from a wonderful few days staying in Old Essmore Cottage with my family. The house is absolutely gorgeous, it is beautifully decorated with exceptional taste and so comfortable to stay in with every mod con at your finger tips and to top it all off the stunning views on your doorstep.
It's a two minute drive from the town of Omeath and five minutes from Carlingford. Situated facing the lough, directly across from the house is a walkway that goes the whole way into Carlingford with the most beautiful scenery you could ask for just stunning.
The house has every amenity you would have in your own home there is nothing more to ask for it's just perfect. I would highly recommend it and would love to go back in the future.

“Wonderful Experience”

I rented Old Essmore for a week for our family (6 of us) to be equidistant from Dublin and Belfast to do extensive touring in the North of Ireland and in Dublin. We were met by the owners (Gerard and Maureen McKearney), who had prepared a fabulous afternoon tea and made us fully familiar with the cottage and places to shop (Carlingford, Newry etc..) The location of the cottage is stunning with beautiful views of Carlingford Lough and the surrounding hills. The cottage was fully equipped and we did not have one issue in the week we stayed. The kitchen/dining area is very functional and roomy with lots of dishes and cutlery Gerard and Maureen very graciously provided initial staples - bread, milk, butter, tea etc. Our only regret is that we had not the time to chill out and just enjoy the cottage. We toured so much we just had time to have dinner in Carlingford in the evening and then get to bed. Hopefully, we can get back to this area and just enjoy hikes and relaxing around the cottage.

A group of 5 of us booked Old Essmore Cottage for 2 nights and we had a fantastic time! Gorgeous house, very comfortable beds and everything u could possibly need is here. Great modern kitchen and lovely log fire made for a memorable and relaxing stay. Our host Gerard and his wife were available to contact with any issues/ questions and very prompt in sorting them out. We felt very much at ease here and will definitely be back again very soon!
