I stayed in the Ardboyne Hotel for the second time in February for my birthday. Four of us headed down for the weekend. (All ladies, 35 - 45, fond of our creature comforts!) The service was just like the last time. Check in was quick and efficient. Friendly too. The girl on reception remembered me from my last stay. We were given interconnecting rooms on request which was great. Very handy for the getting ready stage of the night. We were able to natter away through the open door. We were able to shut it and lock it then for later on. A fuse blew when we were getting ready (possibly from the 6 hair dryers/straighteners/curlers that were plugged in)! A manager came straight up to sort out the problem and we were back in action within 5 minutes. We were given the option of having our dinner in the restaurant or the bar. We went with the restaurant. Wanted to give it a try out 'cause it seemed to have been given a refurb since we were last here. Really impressed with it. Kind of a French feel to the decor. Candles and the whole shebang! Food was gorgeous and plentiful as per usual. There were lots of new additions to the menu too. Went with the Black Pudding and Goats Cheese salad starter. Wow!! Pork Belly for mains. Yum. Didn't manage to finish it. A LOT of food! Lovely though. No complaints from anyone in my group. Was surprised by the waiter arriving out with a complimentary dessert for me with candles and a happy birthday encore! We stuck with the house wine. Think it was a sav blanc. Good value and good taste. Entertainment in the bar kicked off around 10pm and was pretty good. It was a one man band but he did the job! Great craic in the bar. The beds are extremely comfy. Room was VERY warm but I was able to turn it down with the thermostat in the room. I really liked the bedroom. They have a warmth and character that just doesn't exist in the bigger chain hotels now. Each of the rooms that we saw were a little bit different in layout. They're not afraid of colour either. Lovely reds and golds used in the decor. Not the usual creams, beiges and greys. The hotel has the character of time s gone by but with all mod cons! Kind of like a boutique hotel. Not as pricey though! Breakfast in the morning was a full Irish. Not a huge selection for those calorie counting but we definitely weren't so it was perfect for us. We had a spot of lunch in the bar before heading off. Chatting away to the bar staff like we were old friends! We all came away from the stay saying we would definitely be back. Agreement amongst us that we were well looked after and very importantly not ripped off!!!
