“Good all round experience for the family”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

We had a lovely holiday with family, children enjoyed the facilities and accommodation was comfortable. Beds were really comfortable and downstairs shower was great. We ate out at good local restaurants and there are plenty of places to see and explore in Meath, a county we had not explored before.

This was our 2nd time staying at Decoy in 3 months and this time was just as good as the last.

Previously we stayed in the Forge but it was too big for 2 adults and 2 small kids. This time we went for the Hen House and it was just about perfect.

It has a pretty large kitchen with every you need if you want to self-cater although we ate out in Dublin, Navan and Trim most nights.

The kids (ages 2 & 3) absolutely loved the jacuzzi bath and didnt want to get out each night. They also adored the Den, which is a perfect little place for them to play. The blackboard and sandpit were the biggest draw for them, followed by being able to see the hens and lambs in the back.

Decoy is so handy to everything. Navan and Trim are so close as is Dublin.

We will certainly be back again at some point.

Room Tip: If you have kids who get up early, the rooster out the back wont be a problem. If you want a lie-in...

Very nice place, excellent for family with childrens. Good location, near Navan and Dublin. All commodities in the cottage. Even if weather is not very well, it's possible to stay at the cottage and pass the day, attending some sun ;)

We booked the Barn for a girls weekend away and were so deligthed when we arrived. The booking process was simple, and when we arrived we were really impressed by the standards of the cottage. Fabulous kitchen and a really lovely welcome pack. The cottage was spotless and had lovely fresh towels in each room. The beds and pillows are particularly comfortable! There was a shared bathroom between 2 bedrooms which was ideal. the other cottages were occupied by a comination of families and other groups of girls (Hen Weekend) so obviously caters to many types of groups. I would return with my young daughter as the kids area at the back of the den is great, swings, activities etc.

Very easy to find - signposted from main road just off the motorway. Make sure to note the code for the electronic gate before you arrive! Premises are beautifully maintained - gravel covered driveway with about 8-10 car park slots and then a centralised courtyard with about 6 or so houses in a converted stable style around it. Excellent BBQ and garden seating area out the back with nice views over open fields/farmland.

House itself was in excellent condition, very clean with nice comfortable furnishings and all amenities. Very comfortable beds. Half stable doors as front doors was a very nice touch. Staff very friendly and accommodating - were very amenable to some last minute changes.

Nearest big town (Navan) is about a €18 cab ride away.

Great place - would go again.

This is my first review of a cottage. I usually review restaurants and hotels but never rented a cottage before. We wanted to visit Ireland for a holiday and planned to start with discovering the history. Therefore you need to be in the Boyne Valley in county Meath. Because there you will find the roots of Ireland, passage tombs of over 5000 years old and the famous battle of the Boyne to name a few.
The great thing is that the cottage is located almost in the center of Everything. So discovering all history there is on average a drive of 15 minutes in any direction. This is very convenient since we wanted to see as much as possible without having to drive for hours every day.
The cottage itself is fully equiped with everything you need. You don't need to bring soap for the appliances, toilet paper or even eye pads or cotton swaps. Everything is there to run a Household for a week. You only need to cater yourself.
The cottage is quite modern and environmental friendly built; it has geothermal heating so no fossil fuels are burned for heating. It is also spacial so it has plenty of space in any room.
A very nice treat is the welcome basket which contains tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bread, butter, jam, eggs; all fresh and of high quality. We appreciated this after our travel here.
We also enjoyed having a cat :-). The cat was with us every day and apparently felt quite at home. And we felt like home having a substitute cat for a week.
The establishment is also equipped with a spa entertainment. We did not use the spa but did use the air hockey and pool table and also a couple of DVD's.
To summarize it all; we really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place which is comfortable, quiet, clean, modern, well taken care of and a at a perfect location for discovering Ireland.
