Went there while on a weekend away at Newgrange in October. It was a Sunday and very busy but they found room to accommodate us. The food was excellent. The kitchen is off the restaurant floor so you can see the chef work, the food was well presented and very tasty. It was a bit more expensive than most of the restaurants around but it was definitely worth it. We will definitely be visiting there again next time we are in the area.

The Poet's Rest, a well-appointed restaurant attached to George's Patisserie in Slane, Ireland is a welcome relief to anyone seeking a meal in in this small town. Site of numerous first-rate concerts, close to Newgrange, and only about 50 kilometers from Dublin airport, Slane is a convenient place to spend the night. There are three or four pubs, but few restaurants, only one of which deserving attention, and that is The Poet's Rest. The German chef has taken Irish staples and turned them into haute cuisine at reasonable prices. For 31€/person, we had the taster menu consisting of duck, linguini w/bacon, carrot & ginger soup, turbot w/potato & veg, and apple crumble w/ice cream. Each dish was perfectly timed and beautifully presented. The duck was delicious; the bacon was thinly sliced, and the linguini al dente; the soup was refreshing; the fish was fresh; and the dessert was homemade, even the ice cream. Furthermore, two glasses of wine were included in the price. Service, provided by dear, smiling Irish ladies was absolutely excellent. If you're in Slane, don't even consider anywhere else. Reserve here and celebrate the very fact that you found the place.
