Full-Day Castles and Celtic History Tour from...

A tour well missed. It felt like walking into somebody's house for a viewing. There actually isn't much to see and the house has been modernised so actually the feel of a castle isn't there anymore.

This is more a review for the Bon Jovi concert at Slane 2013 than a review of Slane Castle. The castle was a sweet backdrop for this great concert! Regardless of what is or isn't going on, go check out this neat area.

Now mostly used for weddings, private events and concerts, this venue is lovely and unique. The tour was informative and allowed one to see a large part of the castle and get the history on the family. Did not eat in the cafe. The furniture and decor is true to the period and the reconstruction done after the fire very well done. Nice view of the river Boyne. If you are in the area worth a visit but would not go out of the way for this tour. Would rate this good but don't have the option. Next one down is average. The OPW does such a great job on most castles and with the Heritage Card you can get fantastic tours for one great price.

Slane Castle has a rich old history and a newer rock and roll concert venue history. The tour takes you into the living areas still used today and the public rooms were kings have stayed. Dramatic views of the River Boyne and surrounding grounds.

Really worth a visit. We had a great guide called Martin who, as well as guiding us around, also involved our children and they really enjoyed learning all about the castle too.
