“Buccolic relaxation in civilized surroundings! Perfect.”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Just back from a girls weekend in a yurt at Rock Farm. It was exactly what 5 nervous city-slickers were hoping for, and more. The yurts are perfectly appointed and spaced out, beautiful inside, with the best beds and furniture and they have literally thought of everything. The staff including Nicola, Corina and Jo just could not do enough for us. everything you need for a pastoral weekend is provided - wood for the fires (both outdoor fire pits, bbqs and the yurt-based wood fired heater inside - you can buy delicious meat packs and other food from the Estate and cook them with all the kitchen facilities you could want provided by Le Shack, a communal area that is extremely well equipped. (including gas ovens etc for the non-bbq'd elements of a meal). The grounds of Slane are just the most idyllic pastures, rivers and mature woodland that I have seen in Ireland - all capability Brown designed landscape.

We were looking for a comfortable but outdoors experience, to bond, have fun, sit around a fire and talk rubbish for hours, take in the countryside and relax as well as eat and drink well. The weekend gave us all of this.

Go - just go - if you think you were a nervous or reluctant camper, this will change your view. You will never book an expensive B&B or hotel again! Even if the weather is terrible, there is plenty to keep adults and kids amused all on site or just go and be a tourist around the castle or Newgrange. If the sun is out, go for walks, swim in the river, plan your next delicious bbq meal and marvel in nature at it's very best.

Room Tip: The yurt called OAK has got it's own fire-pit close by and also a pub table on the deck which wa...

Wow, what a great place! We arrived to a really warm welcome from Jo and Carina who showed us around the site and to our Yurt. The Yurt was so beautiful. Proper beds with fresh white cotton sheets. Lots of space, lovely furniture and a great woodburning stove. Cute fairy lights add to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was so nice, my children were looking forward to bedtime!!!

We normally go to hotels for our family breaks but decided to try something different and that is why we booked into a Yurt in Rockfarm. What a great decision. Our kids are 5 and 3 and they loved every minute of it! Lots of fresh air and adventures for them and they never missed the tv! Such a nice change. We truly had a relaxing break and also got to spend really nice quality time with our children.

The whole site is really clean and everything is in perfect working order. The 'shack' is a lovely area and was a real meeting point to get to know our other campers and allowed the children meet some other children. Rory (Carina’s young son) in particular was a big hit! On the first evening we enjoyed sitting outside on the deck, having a glass of wine while watching the children playing happily together. We also made delicious pizza that night using the homemade pizza pack provided by Carina and with Alex's help with the pizza oven.

The next day we Joined Carina and Jo and some other guest on a cycling tour (great electric bikes) of the local organic farms and got to taste all the local produce at a great lunch. It was so interesting to meet all the producers and taste their produce. We brought the kids too and they were all so accommodating, giving them special bikes/babyseats, homemade icecream and they got to meet the recently born goats. It really was a great family day out.

Lots of other things to do in the area. We did a tour of Slane castle which was fascinating and well worth going to see. We also visited Newgrange which is nearby.

We didn’t want to leave and will definitely be returning before the end of the summer for another visit. Thanks to Carina, Alex, Jo, Rory and all at Rockfarm. See you again soon!

Hey Guys,

We had an absolute ball, from the setting to the yurts to the Dutch tub to hot water bottles. the detail of everything has been well thought out to make the experience even more enjoyable!

We will definitely be back very soon, we even timed our journey home (1hr 20mins), to see if we could head down after work on a Friday for the whole weekend!

Poppy really enjoyed her trip and can't give us her favourite part, she said it was all brilliant

Look forward to our next trip and to also see the progress around the farm

Excellent place. My daughter stayed there with her friends for a weekend in July and they all enjoyed it. The site is lovely, on the edge of a small forest, looking down a field with an excellent view to river Boyne and Slane castle. The yurts are well separated so it does not feel crowded. Inside, they are pretty big, clean, with proper comfy beds. So it's a good compromise between some comfort and getting closer to nature. The girls also loved the camp fire in the evening, and the giant swings, and the wheelbarrows. For the food time, there is a shared kitchen / dining area on site, pretty big and well equipped (no need to bring your own pans and the likes). The owners were really friendly and very helpful with whatever we needed. I was a bit worried about security but the site is on private land well off the main road so it looks fairly safe.

A few tips for when you prepare for the trip: a) There is no electricity in yurts, although plenty of candles. b) The nearest shop is in Slane which is a fair distance away so bring all you need. c) You can swim in the river (weather permitting); we did not bring our swimming stuff and regretted it. d) On a sunny summer morning, it gets light in the yurts rather early, so if you are a sensitive sleeper, you might want to bring an eye mask or something.

Earlier this year we spent some days in Ireland, and we decided to spend it in this lovely camp site.
To be honest, this was a very good campsite, and I did visit lots of them in the past 10 years, in different countries.

My family and myself decided to try some glamping at Hare' s Leap . It was perfect .The Accommodation was five star from merino wool bed covers to custom made furniture . The whole area was great fun for the kids with loads to do and explore . Nicola was the perfect host , all smiles and welcome . The facilities we're excellent and we helped ourselves to some great coffee settled down beside the wood burning stove and chilled out . The long drop loo took a little getting used to but was fine . The shower facilities were modern & clean . We helped with the straw bailed house by getting really muddy & messy ( kids love it , mums nit so much ! ) We did nt have time to try the Electric bikes this time but the journey along the Boyne Valley looks fab. We' re going to go back with some friends and can't wait to sit around the fire on a summer night and soak up everything this wonderful place has to offer.

Room Tip: Shhh .. Ask for HOLLY !
