“First stop in Ireland”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

My brother and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Glencarn Hotel in Castleblayney in June 2013. This was the first stop on our week long visit to the Emerald Isle and it turned out to be one of the best memories of our trip. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. We arrived here after a long overseas flight and a two hour drive just after the breakfast service had stopped but the hotel staff accomodated us just the same. Later that evening, I happened to mention to the gentleman who seated us in the restaurant that we had ancestors from Castleblayney and that was the reason why we had chosen to stop there. Before we knew it he had called the local historian who arrived at the hotel literally within minutes. This conversation led to a tour of the town the following day complete with information on our ancestors which he had gone home and researched well into the night. All of this was possible because the gentleman (who turned out to be the managing director of the hotel) went out of his way and made that phone call. I would highly recommend a stay at the Glencarn, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We stayed in the hotel from 24 to 26th May last. We had 19 members with us ranging in age from mid 30th's to mid 60th's. Each member has nothing but praise for this Hotel, the wonderful staff who at all times were so helpful, courteous and professional, from reception to the restaurant and the bar. The food was excellent and plentiful and standard of service excellent too!!! We had arranged to eat in the restaurant on Saturday night, but as it was Champions League final night, the staff reserved a section in the bar for us so we could see the football, and served us dinner there. No request was too much for the staff in this wonderful hotel. A huge thank you to Kathleen Lavelle for all her assistance, and all the staff, we will definitely return next year!!

We went to the Glencarn for our 37th anniversary, it is the best hotel we stayed in, in a long time, the staff were excellent, the food terrific, we even got to see Robert Mizzell for free in the ballroom, ballroom is beautiful, rooms are very comfortable, could find no fault at all. Thank you Glencarn, we'll be back.

My wife and I travelled from Albany, NY, to County Monaghan in April on a search to find my Irish roots. Based on reviews from other travelers on this site, we decided to stay at the Glencarn. It was an excellent choice. The hotel is in the center of the beautiful little village of Castleblayney. You can walk anywhere in the village in ten minutes. From the start Patrick McFadden and his friendly staff bent over backwards to be helpful and after four days we felt we knew them all. The guest room was large and comfortable, and the breakfast provided many tasty choices served quickly and with a smile. There is a wonderful fitness facility in the hotel that includes a large lap pool, a steam bath, a sauna, and a hot tub. The pool is kept at nice warm temperature, a must for me to enjoy the water. As an unexpected treat, the Glencarn was hosting a ceili on the day we arrived, and we watched dozens of Irish children compete in a step dance competition. As for our visit to my ancestor’s homeland, a newly discovered cousin Tom and his wife Mary took us on a great tour of the farm that my family left so long ago. One evening Patrick bought us a drink at the congenial on-site hotel pub, and wanted to know all about our genealogical search. He got on his cell phone and in 20 minutes a friend of his, a local historian, appeared at the bar ready to help us on his lap top, and to give us a guided historical tour of the border area the next morning. Thanks to Tom and Mary, to the local historian, and to the staff and management at Glencarn, it was a once in a lifetime visit.

I am back reviewing again after yet another successful event in the Glencarn Hotel. The staff and management of this hotel are all very like minded, friendly and cater to your every need.
We ran a very successful 2 day Christmas Market and fair in the hotel, we had stand holders from as far as France attending, they were so impressed with the last event that they returned!!
The hotel provided 2 a-joining function rooms for the large event of 71 stands, they assisted with sound and electrical and lots more.
What i love about this hotel is, its like one big family of staff in there. Everyone gets on, there is always a friendly chat and a laugh from them, and anything you ask for is just simple done without any stress. The hotel is so welcoming for everyone, even if your just popping in for a cup of coffee in the bar, or if your having a meal, or indeed meeting to book it as a venue for a wedding or event; The reception desk is in the heart of the hotel, and almost everyone who comes in is greeted by the staff, there are not many places you can say this about now.
Our event is an annual event now, and we are repeat customers to the Glencarn, and its for all the reasons above we keep coming back.

The hotel staff offered us, the event organisers one of their recently decorated rooms for changing facilities for the weekend. This was a great benefit to us and was greatly appreciated. The room was very clean, had all the essentials, hair dryer (a good one!) TV, plenty of towels, shower gels etc. really nice, Can't comment on the tv, as to be honest i didn't look (hadn't time)

I would highly recommend the Glencarn Hotel, as i have done before on Trip Advisor.
There is alot to be said for Hotel Staff and Management like that of The Glencarn Hotel, it gets a 5 star rating from me AGAIN!
