Having taken a wrong turn, we arrived in nearby Monaghan quite late to find everything sold out. The desk at the Hotel called ahead to Glencarn and secured us a room at a reduced rate. We were greeted by the most cheerful front desk staff and directed to our spacious room with a large bathroom and full sized tub. We had a delightful late meal in the bar. Coffee and tea was brought promptly to our room in the morning and our rate included a full breakfast in the dining room. This is a must stay off the beaten path experience.

I attended a wedding at the Glencarn Hotel at the weekend (19th October). The food was amazing with very generous portions and I was served by the nicest and kindest woman by the name of Teresa. She was extremely helpful and went out of her way to accommodate a child we had at our table. If every hotel I visited had staff like her, it would be a pleasure for customers! Would definately return to this hotel, really enjoyed it.

We stayed at the hotel on 9th & 10th September 2013 & absolutely loved it. We were made very welcome upon arrival & it just got better. All staff were very friendly & nothing was a bother. We were supposed to have a 3 course meal on one night, but had eaten "a snack" at nearby Concra Wood golf club (amazing golf course) and could only manage a starter bar snack (hubby) & one course from the menu. (me) We also had a few drinks & when we went to pay the bar bill, the barman had arranged our drinks for free as we hadn't eaten enough - how good was that?.
The room was nice & clean with a lovely comfy bed, with just one wee thing - it was really cold at night. Having said that, the weather up till then had been unseasonably warm & more or less changed overnight. We didn't actually ask for the heating to be turned on, but are sure that had we asked, it would have been done without a problem.
Since returning back home, we have recommended the hotel to several people. We are definitely hoping to return next year for a longer stay, however hubby had just been diagnosed with a serious illness 3 days before our stay & needs major surgery, so all being well we will absolutely (eventually) be back!!. (we were going to cancel, but both so glad we didn't, as it helped us to relax for a few days)

Room Tip: Ask for a rear facing room, as traffic can be a bit noisy at certain times.

We would recommend the Glencarn Hotel without question! We had a family get together on the 26th September 2013 for 3 nights, there were 10 of us & we found our experience in the Glencarn Hotel, just fantastic! Lorraine on reception initially took our booking & fit us all in, even though the hotel was pretty busy that weekend & knew who we were on arrival. The staff were fantastic, the food was great & they accomodated us in every way possible, which I'll explain shortly! Theresa in the dining area made us all feel right at home on arrival & suggested to the kids that if they didn't see what they wanted on the menu to just ask & they'd see to it & they did, along with making a fuss of not just 1 but 2 birthdays in the adult group!

We had only arrived a few hours & one of our group who had been ill during the week, felt unwell & without fuss & with great care, they organised a local doctor just to be sure he was alright. The Doc suggested a trip to the hospital & we discussed this in the foyer together, only to find that another member of our group had an accident ( no drink taken ) on the pathway just up the road from the hotel. In this case it was my 81 year old stepmother from the USA & she had broken her knee cap in 5 places, which we discovered later. The staff at the Glencarn really stepped it up a gear but were calm & reassuring. They cleared all people in the small lounge, rested her on the couch, got pillows, compresses, first aid kit out, tea coffee & biscuits, called the local doc again & arranged an ambulance to the hospital in Drogheda. She went on to stay for a week in hospital before being airlifted back to the USA but the staff at the Glencarn didn't just leave it at that! On our relatives return from the hospital that night at 4am, Patrick the owner or manager I'm not sure, was waiting to find-out how Mary was, with genuine concern. He opened the bar, stuck on a pot of coffee & a drink for all of them on the house! Well as a result of the accident our trip was cut short & they didn't charge for the extra night that my Dad & Mary had been booked-in to stay for at the Glencarn, unlike the Gresham hotel in Dublin, which my Dad & Mary were booked-in to return too a few days later! When I informed them of the accident & the cancellation of their return booking to the Gresham again, they made no comment, only to say, your Dad's credit card won't be charged, AFTER TOMORROW. In other words, you are being charged for tonight. What a stark contrast with the wonderful people at the Glencarn Hotel! Also my Dad told me that he ordered some drinks & some juice in the Gresham on the first part of their stay in Dublin earlier in the week & that he went to the loo for a second only to return to his table to find the tray of drinks had gone. On asking about it, he was informed by the staff that for health & safety reasons it would have been removed & that if he wanted to order & pay again he could. How awful. My Dad spent many occassions in the Gresham on visits home to Ireland & also organised my sisters wedding there some years ago. In the case of the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, it seems they just transact, they deal with money not people. The Glencarn Hotel on the other hand is down to earth, modern, comfortable & has wonderful people as part of it's staff & management team! Thanks to you all at the Glencarn Hotel for making our stay wonderful & memorable ( especially under the circumstances ) & for all the right reasons. We will return!

Stayed there for two nights on a golfing trip and all the staff couldn't have been more helpful. It was a pleasure to receive such excellent customer service. The late breakfast was very much appreciated.

Dined here recently and really enjoyed. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. The only disappointment was the menu itself. There was quite a poor selection of foods and seemed unbalanced. However, what I had I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend for all.
