Stayed here in order to "get away from it all" prior to a meeting in Longford. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to help. Bedroom was a great size, however, it was decorated in such a manner it was trying to be decadent, in-line with the history of the palce.......but seems to be trying just a bit much!!!!!
Food was great...but the staff made it!

Stayed with husband for a weekend getaway. Room was way away from original building. It was a bit damp smelling. The decor is old... not antique old... more out of date. My pillows smelled damp also ( changed them with spares). We were there 2 nights and the same dirt that was on floor of bathroom was there all weekend. The staff were nice and there was a wedding on that weekend which looked lovely, but it wasn't a great place to stay or be based for a whole weekend.

We had a pleasent stay at the abbey. Our room was in good decorative order and the beds (double and single in our room) were comfortable, the bathroom could do with a bit of updating. The staff were all very polite and helpful and the food was of highest quality will definitely be returning when next in roscommon.

Lovely hotel with beautiful grounds. Restaurant is very good for dinner, as well as breakfast buffet. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Room was dated, but so is hotel....after all.....it is an abbey! Clean and welcoming. We'll be back!

Room Tip: They have two sections. We needed an accessible room, so it was a walk thru the halls. Very quiet.

Friday to Sunday weekend. Rooms needs a lot to be desired and I hope I haven't caught something from bed or linen, I will be contacting hotel in morning if I have as I am scratching all over. Food excellent in bar and restaurant and I have always known this as I have eaten there many times. Rooms a turn off for staying there again and there was no entertainment on either night which would have been nice.

Room Tip: Are rooms all the same or are there more up to date ones for wedding parties and people who pay full...

This hotel is a must if you're staying in the area. The hotel oozes character and is beautifully decorated. My room was spacious (3 beds), beautiful view and top class soft furnishings and bed. The leisure facilities were spotless and they ever had my favourite morning awakener..a plunge pool. Well kept extensive gardens and a very brief skip to the local main street. Food was excellent offering fresh cod for breakfast. Fantastic value for money. A definite YES.

The hotel is a little down at heel with tired decor. An example would be the wardrobe in my bedroom which for some bizzaar reason had lost the doors (though still had the frame in place) and these were replaced with muslin fabric! Room was a constant 24 degrees Celsius ie HOT ! Opened the window all night to try and cool a bit ....
Reception was old fashioned if quaint and service was friendly. Best bit was the bar food and more especially the rib eye steak! Fabulous and cooked to a turn with lovely onions and chunky chips all served with a gravy boat of pepper sauce - simply yum! All in all not a bad stay and if you understand you are in County Roscommon you will get the drift........ the 70's were a great decade after all.. :)

Room Tip: rear of hotel overlooking the abbey ruins
