“Budget accommodation with ALL the frills”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

Having stayed in many 4* and 5* hotels! I can only say that this hotel could teach many of them a thing or two about service.
On arrival we were met by David, who, unprompted, informed us of all the local attractions, walks, seaweed baths, and restaurants. He did not finish there, however, but supplied us with menus of all the main restaurants in Strandhill. He then accompanied us to our beautifully presented room with large balcony overlooking the sea.
On our way to our room,I noticed an ice making machine and water dispenser on the ground floor, off the reception and for use of all clients.
Tea and coffee with biscuits is also available, all day near the reception
Rooms are large, warm, (thermostatically controlled) comfortable, beautifully furnished and so so clean. Although opened three years, I felt that we were the first guests to this hotel. There is ongoing maintenance which is evident in the pristine condition of the walls and carpets throughout.
All mod cons were supplied in the bedroom, including a safe deposit box (no charge) fridge, hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities, flat screen TV with DVD player etc etc it was just so lovely to fall asleep listening to the waves in the distance. And yes, the bed was King size and so comfortable with lovely duvet and pillows
Bathroom was of the same standard with good supply of soaps, shampoos etc.Towels were thick and fluffy.
Breakfast was described as CONTINENTAL, but this is a gross UNDERSTATEMENT. A full range of cakes/ breads/pastry, sat beside fresh fruit, juices, various cereals, cold cuts of meat and cheese, yogurts and freshly boiled eggs. Interestingly a shelf was dedicated to coeliac foods, including cereals and bread. A specially designated toaster was clearly marked for coeliac use only. Where has anyone seen that before?
Lisa on reception was another real asset with her cheerful smile and helpful attitude. One had the impression that staff here just love their job and their mood is infectious.
Our only criticism, and it was not of the hotel, was the amount of fouling from dogs on the streets and approach to the beach. We could barely take our eyes off the pavement in case we stepped on it. I just can't imagine someone walking onto the lovely carpets in the hotel with their shoes covered in this stuff.
And the added bonus was the price at €99 it was a steal.
You will not regret visiting this lovely hotel in this beautiful area.

Room Tip: A room with balcony and sea view is worth the extra €10

Dear Julianna162

Thankyou so much for your kind review. I am delighted that you had such a pleasant experience while staying with us.

We do strive to make guests feel as comfortable as possible and in this vain look to provide as much comfort as we can. As Strandhill has so much to offer we do like to describe all the amenities available so that you are well informed during your visit.

Our continental breakfast is constantly evolving to meet our guests feedback so i'm glad that you had such a positive experience with it... without providing a 'full irish' alternative we seek to provide a healthy hearty breakfast which we think fits in with the healthy surrounds of the area!

Thankyou again for your kind recommendation and i am happy that you enjoyed your Strandhill experience - i do hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back again soon. Please do let me know in advance i will be happy to give you a similar room.

With relation to the matter regarding the dogs we as a local community will hope to address this issue in the coming weeks - i do appreciate your candid feedback..

Thankyou for taking the time to write your review... it is always great to get such positive comments.

As I live in Strandhill Village, I had about eight of my family come to visit us. We booked the Lodge & Suites. I could not begin to say all the praise they gave to the management, staff etc.As they were all from America, I was so proud to see that we have such a lovely place nearby. The cleanliness & the fact that everybody was so friendly, made it the perfect one night in our village. Their only regret was that they couldn't have stayed longer.

Room Tip: I have been in all of the rooms & can only say that if you are lucky enough to get a room, then...

I booked based on a friend's recommendation and also on TA reviews and I am delighted I did. The lodge was friendly, clean, spacious and had the most comprehensive continental breakfast I have ever seen, plus they cater for gluten free and coeliac which is a lovely extra, like having a separate toaster for coeliacs, very thoughtful in my opinion. Breakfast is served from 07:00 to 11:00 but we came down at 11:30 and the food was still out and we were all still chatting comfortably an hour later. No one rushed us on either day, it was the most relaxing stay I have had in a B&B.

If you have any interest in Strandhill or Sligo there is genuinely nowhere else you should stay.

Dear caitdublin

Thankyou for writing your review on tripadvisor and for sharing your experience with our guests. I'm delighted that all was to your liking and that we managed to live up to your expectations.

We are conscious of allowing guests as much time as possible to relax during their stay and so we try to keep a casual atmosphere at all times so as guests will not feel under pressure but enjoy themselves!

We do not offer a fully cooked breakfast but instead we try and provide a comprehensive continental breakfast with something to suit all tastes - so in this vein we also provide gluten free produce so i'm glad you availed of this.

I will pass on your kind comments to housekeeping with regards to the standard of cleanliness - this is to us the most important element of the hotel we feel the standard must be 5 stars at all times and so we we encourage guests to inform us should this diminish in anyway.

Again Caitdublin thank-you for choosing us during your stay and i hope we shall see you all again in 2014... and thankyou for taking the time to review.

I insisted on staying at the Strandhill when I traveled to Sligo for business based on the fabulous TA reviews. It did deliver on its rating. The hotel was basic, but was extremely clean and had all of the amenities that you need. It was somewhat reminiscent of a college dormitory in its layout. Again, the accommodation does not include a lot of frills, but it is clean, has an astounding view, and includes breakfast. A wonderful value, and I would stay again in a heartbeat! The manager was also wonderfully accommodating with my last minute booking and for that I am extremely grateful!

We stayed at this hotel for 2nights. The room was very clean and had a nice view over looking the sea. The breakfast was very good. The pub next door had a excellent restaurant, very good food and the service was excellent. On certain nights they have live music on in the pub.

Room Tip: The room 207 was very quiet.
