“Excellence - But at a high price-”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

We took a Suite / Meal package for one night at €400. The Suite was excellent , very well appointed however it could do with a painting in the near future . Location is superb and worth the journey down. Hotel is very well insulated and cosy. Staff from our first encounter at reception were excellent, courteous and utterly professional all round. Meal at the Michelin star restaurant was reasonably prices itself although all starters were cold except one. The menu was a little fussy with weird items appearing on the plate all in one big mixture. Portions were reasonable however......BUT this is where the praise stops. The wines were nothing but overpriced, nothing special as a HALF bottle of very ordinary white was €31, then another at €32 . Overnight stay is about €280 which is a tad overprices. Breakfast was excellent , bright and well appointed. Televisions in the Suite were good and the in house movies were at a reasonable price. The Spa and pool areas were very good as well. If you wish to give yourself a treat then the Cliff House it is BUT prepare yourself to pay a high price. Some might say it was not worth it............... It is a treat however !

It is very hard to fault this hotel on the basis of our two night stay. The bedroom was superb, the staff uniformly efficient and friendly, the food excellent in both quality and quantity. My wife said the spa massage was the best she had ever had. The location is stunning. Having said all of that, the prices charged are extremely high; we were there for a special occasion so didn't think too much about it but were amazed that in times of austerity so many others seemed to have decided to spend so freely. Our only grey mark: surely in a double room with a double bed there should be a double mattress, and not two twins strapped together?

Room Tip: All the rooms are sea facing with superb views.

Dear diandjj

Thank you for your review and glad that you enjoyed your stay despite the price. We believe that we offer value for money and thankfully are busy as a result.

Our beds together allow us the flexibility to offer our guests a twin room or a double room which a pure double unfortunately does not.

Yours sincerely

We stayed at the Cliff House Hotel on Friday 18 October. It was a dreadful day but the warm welcome from the staff and the fabulous pool facilities more than made up for it. The outside Jacuzzi a real treat. The rooms are very nicely finished; you cannot imagine yourself wanting to leave the comfort of the room, the luxury of the bathroom or the sea-view balcony to re-join the real world.
However, the dinner was extremely disappointing. Both meals were tasteless and bland. I choose Helvick Cod and my husband chose Steak, should have been easy enough. Service was extremely slow. We waited 30 minutes to order dessert which was overcooked. Then another 35 minutes to try to order coffee which is not included with the meal and seems quite mean. It would appear that they are unable to cope with the smallish wedding that was also there, the restaurant and the bar food. There seemed to be quite a few staff but not very much direction. I had expected an attention to detail which seems to be missing. Such a shame as this has taken away from the whole experience.

The breakfast is lovely which is served with a lovely sea view. The area around the hotel is well worth a visit. I would advise just staying here and eating locally or in Dungarvan.

Room Tip: The rooms have a sea view and are very nicely finished, you cant go wrong really.

We recently stayed for our anniversary and my husbands birthday. Spending as much as we did for one night we expected a "wow" experience. We arrived and were welcomed into a handicap accessible room. It's great that they offer accessible rooms but it was a big disappointment that we paid the same amount and had a permanent seat in the middle and bars that wouldn't stay up making it difficult to shower along with hitting your leg constantly. The entire bathroom, tub, and shower were covered in bars and emergency pulls along with a sink that we had to bend down to use. There was also hairs in the bathtub. We confronted reception about this and told them we would not have booked this room if this were the case and were told it was most likely because we booked online and only a week ahead of time...not the response we expected.
Dinner was overpriced for what we received.
A disappointing anniversary and birthday evening.

The Food was fantastic and well presented. The rooms are gorgeous and well equipped. The views are stunning. One of the finest Hotels i have ever stayed in and I like my comforts. Make sure if you are staying that you do the cliff walk which starts at the Hotel and continues around this scenic area. Top Class! You need to visit and experience this Place to experience real 5 star service with a Smile !!! Oh and don't forget to visit the Spa.

Stayed for two nights. Very nice room with the bathrooms being the highlight! Views are just beautiful with a nice although mucky ( wellingtons supplied by the hotel) walk along the cliff. Ardmore itself has little to offer a visitor but if you love your walks or are just preferring a hotel relax you will be happy. Food is top class - I would go so far as to say it is so far the best food I have had in any 4/5 star hotel in the past 2 years. For this alone I will be returning for a weekend stay in 2014. Staff are delightful and of course film of good Irish humour and wit. It is a very good hotel but with the pomp... Highly recommend a visit.

Every wish is granted by the ultra friendly staff. Obviously the owner has gone the extra mile to ensure smiling faces are where ever you go in the complex. The dinner is a 3 hour gastronomic experience. The views from the private balconies are fantastic. For a little exercise - not too strenuous- a walk along the cliff path is well worth the effort.

Room Tip: 5th. fllor near reception.
