Mary and I had a lovely meal in the Rusty Spoon last week. We were sad to see the previous occupants of the premises go out of business last year, but the new owners have done a wonderful job with the décor and ambience of the restaurant. We shared a bruschetta to start with and it was excellent, more than enough for 2. In fact this was a recurring theme of the place, all the portions were so large that we could have ordered on1 starter and one main between two and have plenty to eat. Mary ordered the fish and chips. Sounds boring but the main arrived with two lightly battered pieces of Cod, home made chips in a basked made of grease proof newspaper and accompanied by a portion of mushy peas with mint. The fish portions were so large that I had to share one with Mary or she would have no chance of finishing this delicious meal. I ordered pizza, the all meat variety and it was delicious and served on a ultra-thin base. We struggled to eat all the food and sad to say I had to leave a large slice of pizza. Nice sauvignon blanc white to wash it all down. Good value and definitely worth a revisit. Nice staff as well.

We visited this restaurant today, Father's Day as a result of winning a competition for a meal voucher, but I have to say it will definitely be the first of many visits. We were greeted by a lovely smile and friendly hello from all of the staff and shown to a lovely table which was set very nicely. The food choice on the menu was very varied and left us rather spoilt for choice, and there is a page of early bird specials, so it was kind of hard to choose, but we finally settled on the cajun chicken caesar salad and garlic bread for starters, then my husband had the 10oz rib eye steak, which he said was beautiful, and I had the chicken supreme which I can certainly highly recommend as it is just simply delicious. My daughter had a pizza and had to bring half of it home as there was too much to eat in one go. We all had a dessert each as well which were all delicious. I am now pleased to say that Mullingar has a new restaurant which is of very high standard and reasonably priced, and will become a firm favourite with a lot of people when they discover it. It has only been open less than a month and I would wish the owners and their staff the very best of luck and well done so far with their restaurant. An all round very enjoyable dining experience, which I personally can't wait to repeat.
