I cannot fault our party's stay (5 different rooms) for eight nights apart from maybe the lack of tea / coffee making facility and the need for some updating, which did not impact on our overall satisfaction. Gerry was especially helpul aided by Paul & Marie, A wonderful stay made all the more enjoyable by the warmth of reception from the locals , the Irish Music night and Steve and his staff at the attached Grainstore Restaurant. All in all Aughrim is a splendid "localised" place to holiday and The Meath Arms the place to stay.

We stayed at the Meath Arms to attend a wedding nearby. The staff were all very friendly and helpful but there were some issues:

+ The windows didn't close completely so late-night (1am - 2am) revellers and early morning traffic disturbed our sleep
+ The curtains didn't keep out the light at all
+ There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms
+ No hot water on the Sunday morning came as a nasty surprise to my husband but the owner offered me the use of a different room that had an electric shower.
+ The breakfast was delicious and the owner gave my husband a second full Irish breakfast to apologise for the lack of hot water proving once again that the way to a man's heart is through his belly!

Overall, our stay was saved by the staff but it's still expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Apparently the suites are vastly superior to the standard rooms having recently been updated.

Recently stayed here for a night in a standard room. The friendliness of the owner and staff is what made it good, the room itself needed some work! Beds old and creaky, though new clean linens. Tiny 14inch TV perched on the top of the wardrobe with no remote control. Tiny but clean shower room, water not amazingly hot. Nowhere at all to hang towels or put anything. Towels new and fluffy though. No kettle which is pretty unusual in this part of Europe. Noisy outside when people left the pub at 2.30am. No carpark but you can park on the road.

From what I heard from other guests, the suites are much, much nicer - large and refurbished.

Good breakfast (avoided the brown bread though as a bit mouldy), and again, friendly service. Friendly checkout. I wish I could give a higher rating, but I just can't - the room was simply not worth 90 euros / night.

Gerry, his Mother Mary and members of staff made us very welcome.
The bedroom that we had was very spacious and the bathroom was very modern with a fantastic power shower that almost blew my wife away !
Could have done with Tea making facilities though.
The adjacent restaurant [The grainstore] was very good too and for value for money puts the 'Strawberry Tree' restaurant to shame [about 2 miles away]
If the owners spent a little on marketing then this would be a very popular hotel, there again the fact that it is such a local venue adds greatly to the appeal of the place.

Room Tip: The two rooms at the top are the best

My girlfriend, friend, her son and I stayed in in the Meath County Inn for two nights as we were attending a friends wedding in County Wicklow. The owners a (mother and two sons) were very welcoming and friendly. we had originally booked into another BB but decided to stay in the Meath Arms. We are so glad we did. We were made to feel at home and best part of it we were upgraded to their superior suite. The bed was king size and very comfortable. Even though we were on a main road hardly any traffic or noise could be heard.
Breakfast was the usual fry up, but there was also the choice of a selection of cereals, toast jam and Irish Soda bread.
There is a Pub and resturant on site with a wide selection of foods.
The surrounding area and views were absolutely breathtaking.
Overall, could not fault the place and would definetly stay there again.
