I booked this hotel for a week-end as a present for my parents' wedding anniversary. Yes it was a bit more expensive than the average Sinaia accomodation, but well worth it, because they loved every minute of the stay. I appreciated the fact that I was able to arrange payment by card, although their policy is paying cash upon arrival.

This is the place to be if you want the full experience! Not only are you just a couple of steps from the Pele's castle and can have a great view of it, but you live in the old guard and servants quarters of the Pele's castle, beautifully newly renovated. Not kidding! Just look up some pics of "curtea de garda" or "economat". Yes its a bit more expensive but seriously it is a unique experience! Do get the breakfast! Its pretty good! And get room 104! Yes its the superior, more expensive type, but with 3 windows facing the castle you get the best view when going to bed and waking up!

As usual, I had no reservations but an idea of wanting to stay at Hotel Furnica from a 2008 guide book. After getting off on the train, I just kept asking the natives for directions as I kept hiking uphill with my 28 pound rucksack on my back. Well Hotel Furnica has been closed for two years waiting for an investor to renovated it.

Without any wifi to get another recommendation, I saw an "Economat**" sign nailed onto a tree. It was more than a hostel to pay for my own room with a balcony facing the front courtyard. Not use to having a nice facilities, I left my polo shirt hung in their fancy closet when I checked out :(

Little did I know that Peles Castle is right outside their patio. In fact you have to drive or walk pass them (and all the souvenir vendors) to get to the palace entrance. It is a hoof downhill to Centre for eats or people watching though.

Room Tip: 203 is above reception two floors up and still gets strong wifi signals. Plus the balcony has the H...

When we come to see the Peles Castle from Sinaia, we prefer to stay at Economat Hotel, because it is part of the annex buildings built around the castle, in the same architectural style and we feel that we live in the same atmosphere.

Not all the rooms are big, some of them are even small outside the hotel, like the one from the bridge over the road, all with small stained windows and white furniture. They are not any longer new, but this is part of the charm.

The restaurant is good, not luxurious but with well cooked meals. There are also some terraces in front of the park. Very good for relaxing.

When they approach Hotel Economat, many people think this is Peles Castle. Of course, it is not! Still, the hotel is very good value for money. A little faded beauty, but it is in a great setting, has a castle-style facade, and clean and simple rooms. You almost feel like you were in some Romanian version of the "Hotel Overlook" from "Shining". But you don't have to be afraid here, it is a good place.
But beware of the breakfast or other meals included in the price! Because the restaurant is notorious. Unfriendly, slow waiters - and poor food. If you avoid the restaurant, Hotel Economat is definitely recommendable.

After arriving in Sinaia and having the Hotel Marami screw us over on our booking, we quickly went over to the economat and booked the only "double" bed they had which was in an apartment. It was cheap by local standards ($60)

The "double" bed was two twins pushed together, which we found a few times in Romania, but we sucked it up. The room was completely unadorned. I am pretty low-maintenance, but this was definitely old Soviet bloc expectations when it came to hotels.

There was ZERO hot water in the morning. ZERO. My girlfriend said she got lukewarm water after waiting about twenty minutes.

The hotel was okay in a pinch, but if people are looking for a great hotel before you get here, let this one pass unless you can find something else.

The major upside: you are literally RIGHT NEXT to Castle Peles. We had an incredible time watching the sunrise from the cafe in the morning as it bounced off Peles. (Sidenote: make sure to take the extended tour at Castle Peles...SOOOO worth it.)
