Nice building in old town part of Ptuj, the hotel is simple with a bit too rich decoration, not really matching the overall setting. Nice small terasse on the first floor, to grab a drink or morning coffee - while at that matter, breakfast, served in window-less room, is a disaster -poor, very limited choice and, frankly, not very entertaining. That being said, Mitra is probably one of only good choices in town.

Although we did not actually stay at the hotel, I am feel compelled to write a review about the fantastic wine tasting experience we had at the hotel. We wanted to visit the town's cellar for wine tasting, but you need to book at least 2 days in advance, which we hadn't done. The Information Centre in town informed us that the Hotel Mitre also offered wine tasting, so we popped in and booked a session for later that evening.
This was a truly fantastic experience. Not only did we get to taste some of Slovenia's finest, the member of staff that assisted us provided us with a wealth of information on the wines, vineyards and Slovenian viticulture and also on the history of Slovenia. The tasting session also included light nibbles and was very reasonably priced. This was the perfect finish to our week long visit to Slovenia and it comes highly recommended if you are visiting Ptuj, whether or not you are staying at the hotel.
