Parador de Antequera

We just spent three nights in this hotel and enjoyed it so much. It was our first stay in a Parador and this one really lived up to the reputation. The staff was great, lots of suggestions of places to visit and things to see in the area. The room was wonderful: comfortable beds, big room and big bathroom. Very quiet hotel. The only problem with staying in Antequera is the lack of street or road signs when you drive into town. But that is not the fault of the hotel, just something to be aware of if you try to find this hotel: be patient and have a good GPS in the car. This hotel is within walking distance of the town, which is very interesting. But I would only recommend staying here if you have a car at your disposal. Antequera is a good base for exploring the counreyside between Granada and Seville.

From the outside this parador looks a bit like a motel, but once inside it is clean, bright and very modern hotel.

My husband and I were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful reception staff and were personally shown to our rooms, something which even in the more upmarket hotels is disappearing.

Our room was lovely, it overlooked the pool area and had plenty of storage, a large comfy bed and pillows and a very modern bathroom. Most of all it was quiet.

We ate in the restaurant and although dinner was a little expensive we thought the food was of an excellent standard. All the food is locally sourced so gave us a wonderful opportunity to sample local wines, hams and cheeses. The only criticism is that the deserts seems to be ice cream based and lack imagination. Breakfasts are also very good with again plenty of local produce to sample.

The hotel itself is conveniently located for a walk into town, which although it is small does have a few interesting churches and buildings.

If all of the hotels in this chain are as good as this one, then we would certainly use them again and would recommend them to others. It is worth looking out for their special offers, as we did - certainly very good value.

The parador at Antequera is not a renovated old building as many paradors are, but a new construction, which provides largish comfortable rooms and attractive public areas -- though the minimalist-style dining room decor is a bit bleak.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are the same.

A modern parador, and so visited for the town of Antequera itself, rather than any intrinsic interest in the parador building. (And the other hotels in town did not look particularly nice.) Nevertheless, the parador is top class, the room remarkably spacious and the facilities unimpeachable with two swimming pools (one for infants). Value depends on what you pay - I had a special offer and so was delighted. Five minutes on foot from the centre of town.

Touring Spain in March the weather may be changeable so in our case we decided to stay at the best hotel within our budget. Because of the early time of the year some good deals were available we stayed in the Parador on special deal for 60 euros a room. This was very good value indeed a lovely spacious room, with a pleasant outlook over the lawned area. Despite the good weather the pool, though full, was closed. Each room appears to have a fixed sunblind which restricts the outlook, not doubt essential in high summer.
We did not eat in the hotel the prices looked rather high (49 euros diner), though a lovely dining room. Big advantage free parking!!

This hotel is fantastic. Completely renewed some months ago, it's brand new. Design room are spacious, clean and confortable, overviewing the swimmingpool and garden area. Restaurant and breakfast area are in a all window spacious room facing on antequera in one side and on the mountain/ country on the other side. It takes your breath away! Breakfast is incredible, mango papaya passion fruit, differt types of bread, traditional cakes..everything you can desire. And the price is relly good. 80 euros including breakfast. I travel to antequera for business, and I've tryed many hotels. No comparison, this is the best.

As recorded elsewhere, this is a pleasant enough hotel. We paid 115 Euros per night for 2 nights double, B&B. Sadly the breakfast catering seems to exist primarily for the benefit of the staff. The most attractive tables are at the windows looking out over the plain but these are generally cordoned off. If you want some entertainment of a morning, just try to sit down at one. Believe it or not, you're meant to only use those tables which have an upturned coffee pot on a stick at them, (I'm not making this up), presumably to save the staff walking an extra 12m to deliver your coffee. You will also get a bill to sign even when you have paid inclusive of breakfast presumably so that you can add a tip to the zero amount you owe. Breakfast food was generally good but for some reason they always include a display of some very dodgy looking leftovers from the night before. If we went again I think we would just go and have breakfast in the town.

Room Tip: Plumbing can be a bit iffy in some of the lower floor rooms so check out bathroom carefully before y...
